Once again, I appreciate all the comments. For now, I bought a GO. Haven't started playing online with it yet, but soon...

Cats and chessboards! Don't get me started! Not long ago I was missing a bishop from my favorite, expensive and no longer available, chess set for weeks. Finally found it caught in the dusty audio/video cables behind a cabinet. But the culprit also snuggles against my legs at night. And he has only three legs, so I can't get too mad at him.

So, have you started playing with it yet? Howz the experience?

I like it and am glad I bought it. I've played a number of games with it, keeping both the board and my phone with the app running on a lap desk, which is a very comfortable arrangement.

I have run into two very minor anomalies, neither of which may ever be experienced by other players.

First, I sometimes work in an old long sleeve western style shirt that has metal snaps at the cuffs. I played a couple of games in which the board/app showed moves (adjacent to the pieces / moves I actually made) that I didn't make. In the middle of a game, there is no way to correct this, and at least once the opponent had already moved before I figured out what had happened. It's somewhat of a mystery, but I'm guessing somehow the interaction of the metal cuff snaps and the magnets played a joke on me! Of course, I started rolling up the sleeves, and now that where I live is a 24 hour steam bath, I'm not wearing the shirt anyway.

Second, once when castling, apparently I dragged the King over the Bishop square, causing the board / app to show that I had moved one square (kingside) over rather than castling. Now I'm careful to pull both King and Rook off straight back before replacing the pieces on their proper squares.

I haven't tried any other features of the app other than playing other humans on chess.com.

Also, it is true that the little lights in the squares indicating moves become invisible in bright sunlight, say, shining on the board through a window. But the solution involves simply moving out of the bright sunshine.

Last, unfortunately, the GO hasn't helped my calculation skills at all!

Your setup sounds similar to the same reasons why I also decided to get a Chestnut GO.

I own the Chessnut Air+, and I use it to play all my live games on Chesscom and I love it.

But I sometimes I like to stretch-out on the couch and do Chesscom Puzzles. The Chessnut Go is perfect for that because it's small and I can set it up on my chest without having the pieces falling off.

I like chessup2, it has a very lightweight design and the lights can be adjusted to suit your preferences, also I believe it's cheaper and is soon to be compatible with Lichess.com and has checkers also. I like how you can also set up alternative board set-ups with the Board Editor, play with a timer against a fellow OTB opponent, and play bots even when you're offline and can't play Chess.com, etc. and there's a power outage (where I live there's a LOT of those) so I prefer it over my Chessnut

Awww. I am glad you finally found your missing bishop. I found my black pawn late last night. And no, I am not mad at all. I love all my fuzzy buddies, and I just adjust my habits - as to not leave any set unattended or unprotected.

Cats and chess are the best combination sometimes. I love stroking my new fuzzy buddy (my old one recently died) whilst I play chess, my room is literally filled with cat stuff and plants and a bookshelf full of chess books

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I still grief for my Sweet Nicholas that I lost in 1997 - a purebred seal-point Himalayan male. I do have three males now - two brothers, and a younger male that found my sister and I during a brutal cold spell at the end of December 2022. He was starving, severely dehydrated, and so, so very cold. According to the vet, he would have not made it through the night by himself. Now Caesar sleeps on my bed - and loved to prop himself on one of my legs, or lay in between my legs. He is the cat in my profile picture.
