hi any news about your order? did you received your items from chessshop.eu?? cheers

minomic

I bumped into this thread while looking for information on chessshop.eu's reputation. Since I could not find much while searching the internet, I thought I would report my experience after deciding to buy a couple of items from them, and my experience is absolutely positive!

I ordered a large wooden chess board and a set of pieces: ordered on Monday, everything was delivered today (Friday). The packaging was great: big cardboard box, well reinforced with plastic, bubble wrap, etc. Shipped with GLS from Czech Republic (I am in Belgium).

My experience is very limited, with only one order, but it went to perfection.

Ah, sadly, I didn't check this thread before ordering from them.
I ordered from them on 05/16/2021, only after I paid I got an automatic email saying that currently, they don't have the set I ordered. So after a month (the previous week), I wrote them a couple of emails to check the status, but I didn't receive any response from them so far.

Update 06/28/2021:
They cancelled the order, and I received a refund. It looks like some of the sets will be out of stock for more when a couple of months as there are some problems with manufacturers because of covid.

I bough a set from them recently. I never got a confirmation email or anything, which was a little weird, but the set showed up within a week and is in a very good quality for the price. Packaging was also very good.

I was suspicious at first, when I found this thread. But for anyone googling it and now finding this thread, I have to say: That shop is trustworthy.
They offered to cancel my order, because of that whole global supply chain stuff and shortages, but I told them I would wait. The package finally arrived (ordered in May) and everything is as ordered.
Communication was very good, they kept me up to date on everything, once I told them not to cancel.

Just got the DGT Centaur delivered from them via GLS. Super fast and very good packaging. With those prices and delivery I will definitely use them again

I purchased a DGT e-Board from chessshop.eu.

Overall my feedback is very positive. I was a bit worried as the website doesn’t have many online reviews, but the seller is very serious and professional. My package was shipped around 2 weeks after the order, which is not so bad considering the chess set shortage. They always answered quickly and in a efficient way.

The product was very carefully packed, as described on the picture above.

So I totally recommend them, but do not hesitate to contact them before your order just to be aware of the shipping date.

Ordered American Classic Staunton (3.75"/95mm king) and the 5+ Walnut Board (not the best match, see below). Tracked package was sent the next day.

Not sure about quality. Overall maybe reasonable for the price (€62 pieces, €35 board)--not luxurious, but not bad either; at least the knights don't look like they're carved by an 8 year old, like some other sets in this price range.

However, I really don't like how the pieces are felted. The felt material doesn't seem great, the cut around it is rough & fluffy. More importantly, many of the bases are a little bit uneven (maybe due to uneven application of glue between felt & wood?). This results in an unpleasant wobble when placing the pieces, most evident on the higher ones. In my case the white king is fine but the black king really wobbles, even if you try to place it firmly (it also leans to one side, almost imperceptibly).

If you order the same 3.75"/95mm piece set, I strongly suggest not following the site's recommendation for board size (which is "No.5+ or No.6"). Get a size 5 instead. The pieces are too small for the 5+ board (6 would be extremely unbalanced).

I will not return it, but I wish I had bought the more luxurious set I was also considering from another (UK) site, because of the bad felt bases which spoil the experience for me. (Otherwise, it would have been good value at less than half the price of the UK set.)

I just had to look up what, No. 4 - 6, correlate to.  I'm  not sure why they use this system but from what I gathered the playing squaes for each are: No. 4 = 50mm No. 5 = 50mm No. 5+ = 55mm No. 6 = 58mm. With that said I would say my personal taste in regards to piece/board sizing differs from  @cheesycheesycheesy. With 3.75"/95mm pieces I would go with a No. 5/55mm board.

I guess it also depends on how fat the piece bases are. The American Classic Staunton with 3.75"/95mm king look like this on No 5+ (55mm square). To me, to the board is a bit too massive for the pieces, but tastes may vary. I would be especially careful with the larger of the two recommended sizes.

This is probably the better perspective to judge. You can fit 3 pawns or a king and a pawn snugly into a square. A bishop and a knight don't quite fit, but almost.

Saludos.

materiasingular

Comprobado. No solo los peones son más pequeños.

Además... Espero que el vendedor actúe correctamente.

It occurred to me that I might have received the wrong size but I measured the king's height and it was acc/to spec. The pawns do feel like they don't belong. They also don't have the sharp collar (ring below the head) as in the shop pics and I think your older purchase. The current collar is rounded and doesn't look as nice.

Though these things feel minor to me compared to the uneven bases. Are your pieces better in that regard?

materiasingular

Yes, but slightly. In reality they are pieces with an adjusted price. Your request in conjunction with the board of those dimensions has multiplied the feeling that something did not fit. The board is also very good value for money. I will use these pieces as a battle set with a smaller board, and enjoy it.
By the way, the reason for this thread was to report the reliability of this store. I have bought twice. Both times with incidents, and both times resolved competently. I still trust them. Opinion Chessshop.eu favorable. I hope they can keep those prizes for a long time.

cheesycheesycheesycheesy

Yes, legit shop, insofar as you will receive your order. As for reliable, delivering smaller (and I guess cheaper) pawns to me and the other poster does not inspire confidence in me, nor the fact that their site advises wrong board pairings. If I was in fact sold "pieces with an adjusted price", I saw no indication of it when shopping.

I hoped to get a nice set (though not expecting luxury for the price) but didn't. I'd say mine is playable but not nice, with a range of relatively minor but noticeable issues. I wish I had either bought a cheaper set from the local shop or shelled out more money for a high-quality set. Depending on luck/priorities/budget, you might have a better experience.

chessmaster_diamond

Bought two nice sets from them recently, see https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/two-decent-staunton-sets-from-chessshop-eu-czech-republic-very-reasonably-priced

Arrived quickly, great quality for money, no complaints.

They might not be the most communicative people, but they deliver.

Just ordered two more, slightly smaller sets, on a Sunday, and got the shipping notice this morning. They ship with Germany Express (DPD).

ClemTaras

I have ordered the Judit Polgar chess set (chessboard, pieces and box).

I have checked the availability on WhatsApp first (they answered me in less than 5 minutes, very kindly and professionally).

They delivered the chess set the day after the order, beautifully and very securely packaged.

The box arrived in Italy in 4 working days.

A very good experience for me.
