The dark squares look like Walnut. The light squares are perhaps Maple or other light wood. I would guess it is Maple.
Circa Date 4 Old Chess Board?

Thanks for the information so far.
Somebody elsewhere has suggested that it could be made from rosewood and boxwood squares? Apparently rosewood lightens and loses its redness over time and takes on the appearance of new walnut?
Also 1850 seems very early, could this be correct?

The dark squares do appear to be walnut. However, I am very skeptical about it being made in the 19th century.
There's plenty of information out there to help date antique chess pieces, but there's very little when it comes to assessing the age of a chess board.
Perhaps there are some chess antique experts that lurk in this forum that can help me to gauge a rough circa date for this old looking chess board? Also can anyone help me identify the types of woods used?-
