Classy Chess Set

I've definitely spent some time out of the game, but now that I'm beginning to get back in I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a nice board and set to get.  Also, any advice on building a chess board?   I managed to find:

but I'm not sure if it would be worth the effort.  Also, I'm a big fan of high contrast white and black as opposed to the more woody look.  Of course heavy pieces are a plus (fan of marble).

Any thoughts, comments, or suggestsion for where and what to look for?

Thanks!

stilton chess?  can't seem to find anything on it.

Any recommendations for a set for a broke college guy?  I'm a fan of the rosewood color, and i love bridled knights also.  I'm hoping to get a halfway decent set for display in my apartment next year, but I don't want to completely break the bank.  I was thinking 4" kings with a 21 or 22" board.

thoughts?  suggestions?  I was looking at either house of staunton or a dealer named yipperoo on ebay.   if anyone has any experience with yipperoo that'd be great to hear

Over a year has culminated in my parents getting a grandmaster from Staunton.  It's a tad larger than I thought it would be...nearly too big (not sure on actual board size, I would guess 21" or 22").  The finish on the board is also not quite as glossy as in the online photos, but it is pretty none the less.

Hopefully now I can push that rating over 1000:)

I bought pieces from other manufacturers before, and ended up disappointed in the detail or in hairline cracks at the bottom of the piece due to improperly adding the weights.  (This process is not as trivial as it seems!)  I would seriously consider buying the House of Staunton pieces off Ebay at heavily-discounted prices (...about a third of what they sell for on their website!).  You can find the boards on Ebay, too, or places like chessusa.com or even at the houseofstaunton site.  There are so many economical boards using veneering that they look great and don't break the bank.  If you need to, there's no shame in getting plastic pieces.  They're appropriately weighted, have good felt bottoms, and have nice design and size for less money.  Before you do that, if you have $130, you can get genuine ebony / boxwood or "blood rosewood" / boxwood House of Staunton 4" Centurion or Collector II sets on Ebay.  I've bought several of these sets and they're well worth every penny.  I can't say the same for other brands I've bought.  Most of these pieces are made in India, BTW.  HOS just ensures better quality control on most lines.  For their higher priced sets and custom orders, they're made in London, England (no doubt by a carver from India that lives in England!).  Hey, India's got the wood and the talent!
