Moriarty, you probably already know this, but the original Teeko boards had circles connected by lines instead of squares. But a 5x5 board with squares works just as well. I got the 4x4 to play a variant for younger children. In this variant the pieces cannot move diagonally.
I too enjoyed reading Scarne's books on games. He also wrote a fun book of card tricks that don't require sleight of hand. There is a nice little app for Teeko you can get for Android or Apple called Tieko, if you're interested. It's well done.
