Has anyone else had bad experiences when dealing with this company/vendor?

- their (new) website is flawed, there is nowhere to log in but when buying with credit card the site asks you to log in

- running some of their software I just purchased (via PayPal), I get runtime error 501, and so apparently do lots of other people...

- they are slow to answer queries and when they do answer, it usually does not address all your queries. They seem to typically struggle understanding and writing English. Sometimes they just seem to ignore your e-mails.

Shame because alot of their stuff looks very good - when it works...

I have Peshka and it is a nice interface. I hope they port all their products to the Peshka interface. Maybe then alot of these problems will be resolved.

Beyond CT ART, I've not seen too many good products out of Convekta.  Their "Chess opening Instructor" was terrible  ... If I wanted to just read "text" with diagrams from an application (with ZERO interactivity or user-input) I would probably buy a book or better yet a PDF.

As a software developer who has tried a wide range of chess products, I can state that they really leave much to be desired.

You should try the Peshka demo - it's a much better interface than in their older products.

I just bought "Jose Raul Capablanca - 3rd World Champion"- it looks like a useful product. Unfortunately it is this that has the runtime error, and it still uses the old ugly interface. I hope they port these annotated games collections to Peshka.

I guess you try to run Convekta products under Vista, am I correct? In Vista, CT-ART must be run under with admin privileges (right click on the icon -> Run as Administrator).

I recently clicked the 'find update' button in peshka (or whatever it's called) and my ct-art 3.0 will not work (it's under vista, but was working fine until I got the 'update').  Not surprisingly, chessok has not responded to my requests for help.

 

Anyone know anything on how to get the update to work?  I get a missing .dll error.

really really old thread, but I wanted to tell everyone that all of these problems have been dealt with by convekta quickly and adequately through their help website.

go to www.chessok.com and click on "help and support".  Scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see two links one to rybkaforum.net and one for the support website for all of their products other than aquarium / rybka.

their programs are really buggy by our usual standards, but once they are working they are as good or better and cost less than half as much as CB products.

My chess budget is tiny, so for me convekta products are a good deal, and I can put up with occasional behavior issues from the programs.

I have Aquarium GUI from them - IMHO it's much better than Fritz or Arena.
