Stop Closing Threads

Does anyone else find it a bit annoying when you look up old chess.com threads and find that about 90% of them eventually get closed by moderators- I get locking out spammers, nobody wants those idiots polluting the place, but sometimes it's just a general discussion that is starting to get spicy and some mod comes swooping in like a guardian angel nobody asked for and shuts the whole thing down.

I mean, why? Is there some sort of concerted attempt to prevent anybody talking to anybody else anymore in case the masses rise up any you? I can assure you, you'll be safe from that if you allow the people to speak, you have it on my authority.

The vast majority of topics do not get locked.

For example?

The only threads I've seen locked were locked for obvious reasons, flame wars for example, or discussions about cheating. Are there instances where you think forum guidelines weren't actually violated? Or are you just saying you don't like the forum guidelines?

Is this some clever joke that I'm not getting?

It's an odd line, for sure, and a crackpot idea. Oh well. happy

what??? practically nothing gets locked. There are many times politics is brought up and as long as the thread doesn't derail into a political fight, even political references are often ignored.
The only thread I have recently seen that has been locked was when someone hijacked the title to something inappropriate.

Your whole rant is based on a false premise. Only a tiny minority of threads are locked. Too few, arguably...

Could you please provide your calculations of this percentage?

Anyway, a more interesting question is why some active threads that violate the rules (IMHO of course, who am I to judge...) are still active

Total false, i sometimes go to read threads from 10 years ago and they are all open, the only ones i see closed are people accusing others of cheating.
