Convekta's CT-ART

Hello Everyone,

I am a beginner who wants to seriously improve on tactics.

I have convekta's CT-Art 3.0 and it looked very nice with all sorts of Tactical and Combinational motifs and grades by difficulty but then I got a new laptop with Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) and not I am not able to install the program anymore.

Can you guys please help me to get around this problem?

Also, Ct-Art 4.0 looks very stupid to me, instead of being an updated version it seems to be the using the puzzle database of CT-Art 3.0 and missing Combinational motifs and grades by difficulty. Am I doing something wrong while installing? It works on my new machine, though.

Any ideas what is going on?

Regards,

Mohit

Its important to try to checkmate as early as possible. Keep that in mind when doing your tactics.  Other than that, I think its your computers fault.  But it might be the programs fault.

Pawn, As I just purchased and installed 10 or so Convecta's programs, hopefully I can help. I am also running 7 pro64 bit.

Log in as Administrator First disable UAC. Control Panel - System and Security - User Accounts & Family- User Accounts - Change User Accounts Control Setting. Slide the slider control all the way to the bottom. Restart. Close all other programs.

When loading Convecta prodrams have the peshk program running and open. When pop up asks if program installed correctly - yes. close Peshk program and re- open. Program( example Art ) will be listed under installed programs. Remember to re-set UAC control slider to medium and restart.

Thanks fishnut for guiding me.

I am definitely going to follow your advice but I somehow feel that we are talking about two different versions here.

You have installed the latest convekta program where you simply install a Peshka GUI first and then install courses as and when required.

I am talking about the old CT-Art 3.0 which had 3 sections:

1. Tactical motifs

2. Combinational motifs and

3.Grades by difficulty

Though, new peshka interface also provides CT-Art3.0 but combinational motifs and grades by difficulty are now gone.

Also, Old CT-Art 3.0 works fine on Win 7 Pro - 32 bit, but causes problems in 64 bit.

Not sure why, but 64 bit must support what runs fine on 32 bit. Right?

Pawn,

Sorry I could not tell you if 64 bit supports 32 bit programs. Yes I heard they changed CTArt 4.0 not having parts of3.0. I am VERY new to this and bought the programs on recommendation from a friend (chess nut). He advised that programs are the best out there with the NEW Peshk interface. Although admittedly not the best programing and could have a better installation , once I got the hang of it everything works fine.

Programs I purchased and that run fine: ,Chess Tactics for Club Players,From Beginneer to Club Player, Chess Guise for Club Players , Advanced Defense, Chess Tactics In the Opening Set (9 cd's) , Chess Middlegame Collection.

If they keep running stable I will purchase more :)

Thanks fishnut for the reply.

Yes, 64 bit architecture supports 32 bit programs to maintain backward compatibility.

And don't worry about the new Peshka, it works just fine and it seems quite stable too. So I beleive you won't have any problem with it.

And for CT-Art 3.0 I think I'll have to stick to my old machine which has

32bit Win 7 Pro.

I hope someone would figure out a way to install it on 64 bit machine too.

Pawn,

I asked my buddy and he thinks the problem lies in the fact Convecta programs HAVE to be unstalled outside the program files folders. He suggested that after installing like I explained to then do a restart and try right clicking the application shortcut and trying compatability mode (troubleshoot compatability) pickung XP where it is an older program. Other than that I am out of suggestions ,maybe upgrading to new versions ? Wish their support was better !!

Do you have Windows 7 prof., ultimate or enterpr.? Then windows xp mode should work.

Dont know if it is allowed to insert links here. Google for "windows xp mode", its on a microsoft.com site.

This is the error I am getting when I click the setup.exe or try to run it as admin.

I have also changed its compatibility to Windows XP (Sp2) but still no luck.

Please note it is working fine on same windows but 32 bit version.

Pawn,

Unfortunately Windows Compatability is not all that great. Your best chances are as Foeinixx stated try Windoes XP mode there is an application for it with 7 Pro. SEE

http://windowssecrets.com/top-story/using-windows-7s-xp-mode-step-by-step/

and

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7

I would try uninstalling the Art 3.0 completely before installing the XP Mode. Once that is done re- install Art 3.0 as explained before WHIlE you are running under XP Mode. If that fails I would say you are out of luck.

On a side note I just ordered three more packages Training Package for Begginers,Club Players, and Intermediate Players. Obviously I am happy with the newer programs.

Good Luck
