Dads Chavet chess set.

Hi can anyone help me identify this much loved Chavet chess set that belonged to my late father. The difficulty I’m having is that the kings are quite large (approx 93mm ) getting on for 3 and three quarters inches whereas the ones I have seen are smaller? The base of the king is approx 33mm and felted. The set itself Is beautifully weighted and in very good lightly used condition.
I think that this was his best set happy.png ! Apologies for orientation of one pic!

Okay I feel a bit stupid on the outside left of the wood box is a label with B210 and their logo is this what’s called a vintage set? The knights eyes are on the side and the queen has a small nipple :-)

Robert Thankyou so much for the excellent info it’s great that my dad had such an important chess set !!

Great set. My personal favourite! Hard to know how much they are worth, maybe average of £500 over the last few years? A few "reproductions" have been attempted but none of them have been particularly good. Enjoy it 😊

Because it is special.

That looks really nice. Do you have a board for it?

Ronbo710

Yes definitely a GEM. Everyone wants this set now. It was used in the 1990, 1993 and 1995 World Chess Championships and the 1990's Intel Chess Grand Prix These full size vintage Chavet sets are very hard to come by. Keep it for memory's sake however. No better reason. Congrats  .

The Chavet sets were used in World Championship matches during the 1990's and early 2000's. That is one reason it is special. Of course family heirlooms are even more special.

Mainly keep the set away from extreme temperature conditions along with too high or too low humidity levels. Indoors in a closet shelf is my recommendation. I tend to store my wooden sets in plastic containers. Mainly because it is cheaper than wooden storage boxes. Where your set is in an original box. Most defiantly keep them together.

Beautiful set in minty condition. A little off topic, but that's a great photo of Karpov.
