DGT Centaur Wooden Pieces
I lost because I tried the evan's gambit :/
Centaur's opening book is very solid !
Nothing wrong with the Evans Gambit, I play it quite a lot and if you're unfamiliar with black it's tough to stay alive. A computer though is very good in that kind of ultra sharp positions.
Great to see you have your Centaur! I hope you have a lot of fun with it!
yes
Can your folks by one for me ? I am just a poor guy.
nope sorry i actually earned a bit more than half of the money to buy it--we're not generally a well-off family either.
Just kidding as you can see by my
. I think it is great your parents can help you out and good for you earning the money to help pay for it. Be careful not to let chess consume your life. Its just a game. There is much more to life.

It has consumed meeeee........ Nah it's fine I'm totally up for a chess-filled summer! XD
Yeah pretty much unless you thin you can make a living at it and even then it could be a unfulfilling life,
Bobby Fischer is a good example of a miserable life.
So, I ordered the 1" aluminum foil circles from Demon Tweeks. I'm down to considering two sets, pics below, the first very close to GMcKinney's, except with a shorter King, and the second about the size of what Sabarian posted a picture of. One is a bit too small with shorter pieces at 69% of the square with a 2.875" King (1.3" KB), the other is a bit too large, at 83% of the square, with a 3.75" King (1.56" KB). I should just buy the Staunton #5 but have enough pieces already. I'll probably go with the wood here, as the shorter plastic are a little lost. The Centaur board seems rigid enough that weight of the set shouldn't be an issue.
HOS Marshall 2.875" King
Wood 3.75" King
I don't know, might do both just to experiment with both a tight board and a more open one. Either is an improvement over the stock pieces. I wish DGT had shipped the same wood pieces they offer on the ir e-boards, that come in three different styles and color combos. Those boards are twice what the Centaur goes for though.
Omg after 6 months I've just beaten centaur at 5min on expert level with centaur having 2 queens haha !! I'm dissapointed I didn't note the game in my excitement...here's the positions though 😁

I really like the wooden pieces, that green instead of black/brown is a unique look. Yes they are a bit big at the base but still, gorgeous set.
Thank you, I was lucky to get them with a matching board years ago. They are a fraction tight because the 1.56" KB only has a 1.875" square to work with on the Centaur, but they all fit inside the circles. The rook is an exact match, and the pawns are also very close, but it's the Knights and Kings that are largest. I was going to cut adhesive foil for the bottoms, but the Demon Tweeks 25mm circles will fit perfectly, and hopefully the Centaur will recognize them.
Well, it took NINE weeks to get the 25mm aluminum foil disks from Demon Tweeks, as they got lost in customs. Rather than going with the slightly larger lacquered green/antiqued boxwood pieces I posted about earlier, I found a set of HOS Fischer-Spassky 1972 men with a 3.5" King, which are nearly an identical match to the standard Centaur pieces in every respect. They are Anjan and Boxwood and I was able to get a good deal on them:

I just stuck the foil disks on the felt bottoms and they work great. I'm really glad you guys posted about this as it adds a lot to the game, and it never would have occurred to me to try it. Thanks again.
Thank you everyone for suggestions. It is definitely worth using wood pieces!
Update: my parents are getting me one!!!! So excited...
Wow, great parents you have. You should make a picture when you have it. Have fun!
