Very good news!!’ Once DGT manages to connect iphone to e-board that will be a new revolution in chess!
DGT E-boards - worth the money?

Sorry here is the video link. https://youtu.be/PGIE934ytKI
That's a nice e-board.
Here's mine:

It works well enough (mainly for its PGN dump to USB memory stick feature) that I don't used my DGT e-board much anymore.
Now, instead of DGT spending effort in iPhone/Android (which are slow devices when compared to a laptop for chess engines); I think if they'd put USB memory stick feature like my e-board, it'll be so much more convenient to use.
I held out for a long time. DGT produced the Smart Board. I bought this one and have not looked back. I'M SO GLAD I made this purchase. I can connect it using Fritz/ICC/Playchess.com, and I also bought the DGT Pi as well. All works great. I purchased speakers for the PI, so that it announces the moves when using it. When playing on the computer I can connect it via USB , and play Fritz software that announces the moves and play with out looking at the screen. I can arrange to have the moves displayed on the clock when playing the desktop computer as well. It is worth the money for me. It's really great playing blitz against the computer, and endgame drills. It has got me playing more chess when not at the club or meetup! This setup is the best chess computer ever. What I REALLY like is having a method to play on a tournament size board and pieces and not having to even look at a computer screen. The DGT Pi/clock computer, can run on AC or a power bank, so you can take it anywhere. IT IS WORTH THE MONEY.
I completely agree with you. The only difference is that I don't have any speakers connected to the Pi. Can you tell what kind of speakers you have?
jv2080, thanks a lot for your message.
I tried different speakers. I can hear a voice that announces the moves, which is great, but unfortunately the signal/noise ratio is very very bad.
Do you use a stereo or mono jack plug? I tried several wires but unsuccessfully so far.
DGT must find a way to connect uts e-board to iphone abd ipad.
I asked DGT about it this week. Here is their reply:
- DGT is talking to chess.com and lichess.org, but they have not reached an agreement yet.
- Support for iPhone and iPad is currently based on the web interface of LiveChess. However, there are no applications using this interface yet.
- For Apple there is the AcidApe App, which communicates with DGT Bluetooth boards.
I assume that Apple in no. 3 is a typo and should be read as Android.
Stereo. You may have to edit a startup file for the issue.
What file is that and what should be edited? Thanks
There is no such thing as Acidape in any apple store and it is not possible to connect DGT to iphone. Noone wants to surround himself with a massive computer or laptop with all sorts of cables tangling around him to play a game on internet on DGT board. The only way to make DGT board convenient and popular is by connecting it to iphone and ipad.
Dude, you need to calm the heck down.
I have friends who have had a DGT board since 2001 and 2004 respectfully and both of them have mentioned serious firmware problems not addressed by the manufacturer
I owned a DGT board for a number of years. I sold it to a friend with a Chess club because there were problems with it stopping the piece recognition in the middle of a game while on the internet.
The boards work fine for tournament use where they are networked with other DGT boards.

I think I've seen your problem:

At around 10:18 , the DGT stops updating. Even before that, I just noticed that it stoped updating on the second move! Oh crazy DGT.
DGT boards were originally developed for use by professional players over the board. Later the company marketed them to people to use playing online. I suspect that the company over the years has not been willing to refine the necessary firmware to make online play reliable and consistent.

Although I have never used my DGT eboard for online play, I don't think it would require any cables. You just need a computer/laptop nearby for the Bluetooth version (it also includes a rechargeable battery, so no power cable too). The eboard being not all that portable, I don't think it'll improve much in online play with portable device connections.
My use model (and probably many others too) is to play OTB games on the board and avoid keeping score. Later, I'd download the PGNs of those games. In this regard, the DGT eboard works well (there is only 1 bug I've encountered in this usage). In this usage, connection to a portable device is more useful; however, simply having a USB thumbdrive connective will be WAY, WAY more useful (see

At 8:36 location).
Acid ape chess is only android. I have the app... DGT board is great with Lucas Chess and FICS (using the babaschess GUI) or Arena.
I see that a new product has appeared on the House of Staunton web site. The relatively inexpensive Millenium ChessGenius Exclusive chess computer can now be augmented with the Millenium ChessLink, and the two together cost much less than the other chess boards being discussed here. But the Millenium ChessLink appears to offer the kind of connectivity people are looking for.
