DGT Pegasus?
It's true that the Chessnut Air is technically superior to the DGT Pegasus in one key area: full piece recognition. But that's pretty much where its advantages end, in my opinion.
In almost every other aspect, the DGT Pegasus wins for me:
- Larger squares and bigger pieces
- Nicely weighted pieces
- Much better LED indication system
- Overall much more elegant and beautiful design
By comparison, the Chessnut Air uses an older, dated piece design and has a strong yellowish tint on white pieces.
Price-wise, in Europe the DGT Pegasus is also cheaper than the Chessnut Air right now.
The only question mark is general reliability. There aren’t many recent reviews, and some older ones mention connectivity or stability issues with the Pegasus. That said, there are also many videos (like this one I'm sharing) where people use it for long without any problems.

For a plastic electronic chess set, the DGT Pegasus looks awesome.
Don’t you agree? Or is the full piece recognition a total deal-breaker for you?
Curious to hear your thoughts!
Pegasus is a good looking unit, nice weight to the pieces. I should use mine more. Just charged it up, will give it a go.
I used to have a Pegasus, it was a good piece of kit, nice sized board, nice pieces and very obvious move indicators with the flashing board. It worked well for me at Lichess and Chess.com . The only thing it needed to be perfect was piece recognition.
I moved to a Chessnut Go. I like the piece recognition and the pieces /feel/ weighty due to the magnets giving them a bit of extra pull. I also like that it is movable mid-game due to those magnets again. It /could/ do with being a little bit larger but since it's really designed for travel I forgive it for that.
