I grew up with my Dad owning a chess set like this, except that his had glass eyes. My brother inherited the set. I was on the look out for over 2 years for a similar one, and found this one a month ago on e bay.

The glass eyes is missing, but I will have it made.

The problem I have is I dont know when this set was made, where it was made and any other history. I only saw these 2 sets in my life and would like to learn more about it.

The King is 100mm tall.

I hope someone can help.

Have a look on eBay. There are some examples that look very similar.

Thanks, when I was searching for the set I wanted, I also got to these websites.

But they were all reproductions, and I wanted an original.

I remember my dad got his set pre 1950 from my maternal grand dad.

He came to South Africa from the Netherlands in the 1930's and already had the set.

It seems to be very secretive about its origins

House of Staunton reproduces a very similar set with the detail of the Knight the same as the one I bought. beautifull stuff.

I like the Regence more than the Staunton for some reason.

I think the staunton's simplistic design gets a bit boring.

Just my opinion.
