Does anyone own a wenge chess set?

I'm considering buying the House of Chess Zagreb chess set in wenge/boxwood but I can't find any pictures of wenge chess pieces outside of the extremely well-lit pictures on their website.

I want to see what they would look like in normal lighting, and was hoping that someone who owns a wenge set could post some pics.

The pictures aren't there.

This looks nice. A rather individual interpretation of the Zagreb style, I like the bulbous bases. Never seen a Wenge set either.

The bases are more of a Dubrovnik style. Wish that House of Chess would make a Dubrovnik set.

Oh sorry, I should have double checked the link. Looks like Sound67 fixed it.

Yeah I really like this set, it has things I like from both the Zagreb and Dubrovnik sets.

I'm a big fan of the chunkiness of this set. The only thing i would change is the finial on the king, because I like the ball finial more. I guess I just want a Dubrovnik set with Zagreb style knights lol.

I don't have wenge pieces but I have some wenge on a board. Maybe the lighting in the picture is accentuating the grain. The wood on my board seems more even grained, considerably less than rosewood. It's not as fine grained as ebony but, in my own opinion, should make a nice wood for the dark pieces.

Thanks for your response. Yeah the lighting in HOC's photos in general seem to really accentuate wood grains and make the sets seem lighter and more saturated in color. I've seen some video reviews of HOC's sets and they look a bit different than the pictures suggest, although this could partially be due to the natural diversity in wood.

Wenge boards are fairly common (Got one myself) , but pieces in that wood I've never seen elsewhere. Wenge is a porous, coarse grained type of wood, might take some extra effort to polish those to a smooth surface. This same set is also available in bud rosewood (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bud-Rose-Wood-Zagreb-Staunton-Wooden-Chess-Set-Pieces-King-size-4-with-Box/121346812568?_trkparms=aid%3D1110001%26algo%3DSPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180213162448%26meid%3D700f6541713b4c22808861c9bbca41d3%26pid%3D100930%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D351082392074%26itm%3D121346812568%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2332490&_trksid=p2332490.c100930.m5375), rosewood and sheesham.

Yeah I can only seem to find wenge chess pieces from HOC.

I really love the look of the bud rosewood pieces, but I've read so many reviews about how they oxidize and develop a white dust that periodically needs to be polished off. This would feel really tedious for me and I think it would detract me from enjoying the set. If it weren't for that issue I would get the bud rosewood pieces in a heartbeat.

Wenge in my opinion would be a nice added choice for Black pieces. Just make sure you don't use them on a Wenge board. The Wenge I saw in person. Did have tight grain patterns like what is pictured in House of Chess Zagreb Wenge set.

Thanks for your input! Yeah I think wenge on wenge would be a weird choice. A walnut and maple board or something with light contrast might make this set stand out well.
