Hi All - Just received this AMAZING vintage "battlefield" . The Drueke "Play a Way" #65 board with 2.5" squares AND a nice border. VERY large board. It came with a standard Drueke #35 set which I will probably flip to recoup some of the loss lol. But I had a set that almost leapt out of its box to get on this board. Not sure who (???) made it but it is VERY well made.It looks like a DGT set on STEROIDS. No sensors but triple weighted/green baize. VERY large head on the (4")Kings/Queens. The dark pieces look like rosewood and have beautiful striations. The light pieces are boxwood and toned very nicely. If anyone has seen this set before please let me know what it is. I bought it on ebay years ago from a seller in Austria. Thanks All -Ronbo nullnullnullnullnullnullnullnull

Beautiful set and combo, Ron. Check out Arlindo's post and vid on German sets and see if it pops up.

Thanks Gents. One of our fellow travelers (Thanks M) came through and told me it was an early House of Chess set. When they called themselves House of Jaques (nee lawsuit wink.png ). It is just big enough to feel in a class all its own. No snub nosed steeds here happy.png .

Beautiful!

I have a collection of 19th century Jaques chess pieces - four sets in all, dating from 1862 in one case to 1890 for the least old. They are beautiful and they make it extremely easy to turn my nose up at any and all "modern" sets out there.

But I have to say that these pieces caught my attention. It's a really beautiful set - congratulations. I love the knights, in particular. They're so sculptural. I also really like the rosewood pieces, which is strange for me given that I don't normally like dark brown for the black pieces.

All to say that you have a really great set there. Congrats. Hope you enjoy it for many decades to come!

Thanks happy.png . The set is huge. I actually can't remember where I got it. But it was way before I found this board. Cheers - Ron

They’re no longer made and this particular size is very rare on the secondary market. One might come up for sale every few years. 1.5”-2” squares are easily obtainable used, 2.25” requires a little more hunting for a nice one. If you want a 2.5” square Drueke there are many board makers on Etsy that make Drueke style boards.
