Please forgive my poor photography, but I just wanted to share this image of my plastic Drueke chess set.  Any other fans of this design out there?

I will post some better pics later.

The Drueke set is very nice.! I had one & sold it. I regret it to this day.

here's mine:

Frank ,  I had a dreuke set like the one pictured , loaned it to a friend , moved and never got it back .  We lost contact over the years and I dont even know if he's still living .

I just saw on ebay a used plastic Drueke set for sale at $195, and in mint condition for $295.  I suppose not many were made? I hear that this design was discontinued long ago.

TurboFish

Thanks Frank, that's a much better photograph.

I went to a couple of the Korchnoi/Mecking   games when they played their candidates match in Augusta Ga ( of Masters golf fame ) and was shocked that they were playing their games on a plastic dreuke and roll up board !

Reb.. you are a lucky guy to have seen 2 games from these guys. Korch The Torch is still playing in his 80's I read. Its disgusting that these two fine GM's had to use such Equipment.!

It's not the most beautiful set out there, but it has a certain dignity.  Some people feel nostalgiac about this design.

I do as well.! My main point is it should be a nice wooden set & board for GM's of this calibur to play on.!

Chess piece porn? What is next?

DrNyet

I not only like the look, but the feel is particularly great when moving them around, due to the ample weighting. I noticed at a tournament or two last year that some are much shinier sets than the (older) one I have and have always seen around. Don't know if that's because there is a newer, shiny version or if some people wax or otherwise coat theirs.

My 70's Drueke was a matt finish with no shine. It could have been sweat or oil from the hands but, should be easily washed off with a damp cloth.

I realized this also.

see my thread for further discussion:

Julio.. If you don't like it here why stay? We like to see & discuss various chess equipment. Have Jr. take up soccer instead of chess. You will be both happier then IMO.

ROBB_CHESS

So Julio, we see your intials are J.A. We usually call them donkeys out here in the wild west, but sometimes we refer to them as something else...

Thats a good one Robb.! Maybe the Troll will move on to some other Forum & leave us alone.

Chicken_Monster

When guys start talking about fetishes with respect to children on chess forums that kids read, alarm bells should activate. Red flag.

Gomer_Pyle

Here's another one. What I like best about the set is the weighting. They're fairly heavy and very stable.

9kick9

Your lucky to have that one Gomer.! Drueke made the best weighted plastic sets & were seamless. They were truly ahead of their time.
