Seems the ol' man new what he was talking about when he pounded the table on Renaissance Wax being chess pieces drug of choice (plastic, wood, or any chess piece material) and bringing it to the attention of the forum.
Seeing is believing!

Was inspired to finally try out my Renaissance Wax on a couple of my wooden sets. Wow! is the word. (Sorry for the tangent.)
Those old linen folding boards are fab. I have a couple that I've picked up at garage sales etc, but they're very worn out from being stuffed into bags, satchels etc. Such is life. How a vinyl board could possibly become the standard is beyond me.
But mainly commented here to say how much I love the picture of your grandma + the chessboard cake. So cute.

You are surely correct... Seeing is believing. Post those photos or didn't happen.

Oh, tough crowd, tough crowd. I got my wax from Amazon about a couple of weeks ago, but wasn't moved to try it until seeing Chuck's Drueke set. Well, sorry but I didn't take any "before" shots. This one is my set with German knights on a Drueke board. The board still needs work - it's so old - but it looks a heckuva lot better after a simple waxing.
This one's just the black army of my Zagreb. Sorry about the junk photo. (Sure wish I had a camera like Chuck.)
I'll post a pic of my shatranj set in a little bit. Hey, the Renaissance Wax works on that too!
Hang on, Hoe. When I post my pics of my shiny shatranj set, you're really gonna squint. Boy, is it ugly. Big. Butt. Ugly.
My opinion, on the other hand, is that you are a pretty foul person to malign such a nice person and lovely lady as Hou Yifan, a 21 year old two time world champion, with your nasty take on her name and image.
Hear! Hear!!
You would think his parents did not teach him right from wrong.
The reds from my shatranj set.
My shatranj set newly polished. Yes, the kings are standing on their own colors.
Thanks, by the way, D2_To_D8, for recommending Renaissance Wax and sorry, cgrau, for leading this thread astray.

And may I add, rcmacmillan, that that was eloquently said.

This guy's a massive troll. Best to ignore him. Why he feels the need to come into the "equipment" section, by far the nicest and most civil part of the chess.com forums, I have no idea. He won't get much action here.
Am I right in thinking that people put this renaissance wax on plastic pieces as well as wooden?
Check out cgrau's pics of his Drueke set. Looks practically brand new.

Up, your sets are gorgeous, the sheen spectacular, and your pictures superb. My camera is my iPhone 5.

No problems, Up. It was a logical direction. I love that set, the board, and of course, the wax job.
D2: What is the third set down in your photos -- the black and ivory plastic?
It's actually a Bone Staunton R-II (Camel & Buffalo Bone)
You are more than welcome Upcountry-Our pleasure.
Thanks, cgrau.
My wife complimented me, "Wow, your pieces look nice, waxed."
What?
Indeed he did. Many thanks.
