I recently purchased these Emisario chess pieces from Chess House. They arrived Thursday (2 days ago). I have to say I am truly impressed. I’ve owned a lot of different plastic pieces before and these are really nice. If I had bought these 20 years ago I probably wouldn’t have had very many other plastic sets, this Emisario would have been satisfactory. I’m showing it here on a CH brand Flex Pad board w/ olive colored 57mm sqaures.
I shot and edited this YouTube short video this morning. I am putting together a much longer thorough and detailed video review of these pieces. That video will be posted in another day or two.
These pieces look stunning to me. I like the color combination. The calvary look menacing, the clergy look dutiful, the towers show power, the monarchy is majestic, and the infantry is well grounded and balanced. The pieces are well weighted without being too heavy.
Yes the seams, mold lines, are visible after all it is just plastic set, yet so far I’m very impressed.
None of the weights are loose and rattle. It has real felt base pads not just green fuzzy paper.
I’m going to take it to the coffee shop this afternoon for some 15 minute rapid chess and friendly trash talk. After that I will complete my lengthy yet detailed video review. In that upcoming video ; I unbox it, demonstrate it on several other chess boards, and compare it to other plastic sets like the Marshal and Reykajvík sets from HOS. I’ll post that video review in this thread when I complete it.
In the meantime, does any one else own these pieces any color combination or have you ever played with these Emisario pieces? If so what do you think about them.
I bought these pieces. I’ve expressed my opinion, this is not a review sponsored by Chess House.
