I just came across this post while searching for info on my set. My Grandpa who was from Russia gave me a set when I was young. I can tell you myself and all my cousins received sets as gifts Mine is basically untouched for 40 some years so not all of them have wear on them my cousins still
have there’s just sitting on shelves also
so I wouldn’t look at wear as a factor on it.
I have a vintage set. I never used it. I have a Etsy store too. It’s better than eBay. I’m not selling but if I were to I would use my Etsy
Most vintage russian sets on Etsy are basically rubbish!
Etsy is not reliable at all and it is too amateurish. In contrast, ebay customer has all types of protection and the customer service is very high class and good. Amazon is equally good!
This dude obviously does not know what he is talking about.
He must be an agent for something evil...
Hi everyone,
I've seen the posts about the old, vintage Russian/Soviet sets and I'm interested in getting one or a few. I know they can be found on Etsy and ebay, but how do you know if a set is authentic? There are a few sellers on Etsy that are selling vintage Soviet sets, but they look new and the finish and color look the same. Are there many fakes out there, and if so, how do you differentiate between a fake and original?
The best ever russian chess set that I ever saw was on ebay and amazon. Etsy deals with low-end range russian chess sets. As I highlighted ebay customer protection and product platform is far too better and sophisticated than Etsy.
Repeating bad and wrong things does not suddenly make them right or good.
Once again this Chessopera dude needs to get a life!
Mr rubbish is clueless. All platforms have the same buyer protection Etsy is just more seller friendly with pricing and fees
Anyway I was just searching for info on mine. I always thought my grandpa made mine. Or had it made. Since it appears hand made and has no branding. And all My cousins have one similar. We are Russian and he came here in 1948
i see many similar ones online but not identical. I never got the chance to ask him about it. And recently learned we almost all received on similar to eachothers.

i see many similar ones online but not exact.
Just researching not looking to sell maybe I will add a pic it doesn’t look expensive by any means just curious on it I never got the chance to ask him about them
It’s nothing extraordinary but it is special to me. My grandpa brought this with him here from a camp in Germany but he had it in Russia before Germany
i supposedly have the one he brought with him. Anyway I’ve had it 43 years and My toddler had it 5 min and broke a clasp on it. Thats all I was told about it. I’m the oldest granddaughter so I have it since I was born.
My grandpa was Russian but taken by the German SS to be a SS soldier I 1947/1949 he came here from a post war camp with wife and my dad to New Orleans
Then ultimately Chicago
It is natural that people on here who sell chess sets on Etsy sing its praise to allure and dupe customers but customers nowadays are very well informed and they are very well familiar with ebay, Amazon, Etsy and Pinterest platforms and can compare and see for themselves which ones are better. Objectively speaking when it comes to chess products ebay is best because of its wider range of products, competitive prices and customer protection and also individual data protection. On Etsy, the customer is also expected to enter his full bank details which is very risky as opposed to ebay where customer uses a third party for making payment, i.e. Paypal.
Uhmm, no one that has posted on this thread, except perhaps this Chessopera dude, is a seller of any kind. Perhaps Chessopera is a seller trying to dupe all on this forum into buying the things he says we should buy...Chessopera, the agent of evil.

This guy just keeps making up ridiculous lies.
Sellers choose what payment options they accept on Etsy. Usually PayPal and various credit cards, as anyone can see for themselves. Etsy also allows buyers to file cases with them against any sellers that buyers are unsatisfied with, again, as anyone can verify for themselves.
All of my Etsy purchase have been made with PayPal and I have never experienced any problems, something that I cannot say about all of the other platforms that Chessopera recommends.
Actually the only thing that is Fake in this thread is Chessopera. He or she is obviously a complete fake.
From my personal experience I advise customers to use ebay as their main platform, unlike Etsy you do not need to enter your bank details in order to become a memeber which is high risk soecially with so many hackers around. Finding high quality and new condition Russian chess set is not easy. House of Staunton has a few Russian sets which are very high quality. Again, search on amazon and ebay may help you find more high quality Russian sets. Good luck with your search.
This is completely wrong,
I joined Etsy as a buyer only and I never had to give any bank information. My wife also joined it with her own email and she also never gave such information.
Again, pay no attention to the things this Chessopera says. It is always wrong and fake.
a 1960 russian set on a victorian table. i didn't research either purchase much, but i love the feel and look of both.
Chessopera is lying about this.
He is also a fake and a fraud as he is a seller that has come on here acting as if he was a simple consumer as the vast majority of us are.
He is posting false and fake information as to what it takes to get an Etsy account.
