FAO chess set collectors - Soviet era sets

I have noticed that Soviet era chess sets in good condition seem to be becoming more and more sought after, especially in the west. I am currently in St Petersburg, and there are a lot of such sets for sale. Obviously most of them are in awful condition, but it is possible to happen across some which are hardly used, or even mint.

So, I was wondering, from a collectors' perspective, what is particularly desirable, and how much are people willing to pay for such sets?

Wooden sets are the norm, although in Russia the most collectible seem to be carbolite / bakelite sets from the 1950's. There are plenty around, but again, finding them in good condition is a real challenge.

Any information from a collectors' point of view would be much appreciated.

Wow. Not from collector but from manufacturer point of view. It's just amazing how this thing with self expense of may be 25$ is sold for 250$

I actually took a look at Etsy, and while not that surprised by some of the high prices, I was slightly taken aback that even some sets in very poor condition were very expensive. I think people are more and more understanding what they're selling here now. I bought a beautiful 1980 set in mint condition from an old lady here for €50, which I thought was a fair price for everyone. That was more expensive than some I saw advertised, but it was virtually unused.
