None of the designers of these five sets knew, what a finnish workhorse looks alike. I can see ( starting from the nearest), a bear, a "idunnowhat", a panther, an "owl-cat", and a boxer (dog)...
Finnish Chessmen
The above are presented as Finnish on The Chess Museum site however they’re almost certainly Ecuadorian in origin.

They play with "Helsinki 1952 Chess Set" chess pieces.
As you can see from the photo, these chess pieces were in Finland long before the 1952 Chess Olympiad.

Finnish chess tournaments still play "Helsinki 1952 Chess Set".

Hi people, I'm trying to identify this set that appears in the Magnus Carlsen documentary.

Is not the same as the one that you showed here, but some lines are quite similar.
Do you have any clue about the set that I'm looking for?

I own some traditional finnish chess men sets. Basicly they are all quite close each other, but you can clearly find at least five slightly different ones. I don´t know the age of them, but the modell is more than half a century old. Some of them are identical with the pictures above. I think that is the most common model. All of the sets are made from the birch wood, one from the bird´s eye birch, whitch we call visakoivu here in Finland. Anyone knows more about old and traditional finnsh chess men?
