FISCHER; A GREAT BOOK, AND PALMA 1970 SET ...WHEN?

Sort:
BurnAmos

Finally. Only now in 2018 a book about the Great Interzonal of Palma de Mallorca, and the one that decisively projected Fischer for the World Title,

And what an extraordinary book. Organized by the Spanish Grand Master Alfonso Romero and the excellent Argentine writer Jorge Luis Fernández, this gem of chess literature has comments and analyzes by Hubner, Larsen, Geller, Smyslov, Gligoric, Hort, Portisch and 18 other GMs.

An "old-fashioned" book that alternates verbal comments and analysis of variants without overloading the reader and lover of chess. A book that was more than necessary and would well fill a serious gap in the chess literature of the Interzonals  in particular and the great tournaments in general.

Already a request: Mike and  Chuck for when, a faithful reproduction of the Spanish set  of this zonal. These are the Spanish chess pieces of the 1940s, with a new and more beatiful  Queen (look at the coronet!)., like the Sevillha  set, The Queen, and the Bishops made the diference, and turns the Sevilha chess not a truly Sevilha set, but a poor approximation.

This set proves that the "chuby" and fat modern Indajesa spanish set sold today, is an unfortunate adaptation of this beautiful Spanish set. Mine is similar to Palma de Mallorca, however the Knight does not have the glassed eyes, and obviously the truly unique queen.

The best.

you are right, the current pieces sold as "Sevilla 87" pieces are far from the original design, and also they are only available in Staunton 5 size, not 6.

English version of this book? I don’t see one.

Fer8799- You are right, but see my next post about the misterious Sevilla set.

ffolkes. No english version. This Spanish Power Chess Editor not only does he bet on Spanish translations of great English or Russian books, but he has been betting on only Spanish editions of great books of which this book of Palma de Mallorca 70 is an example, as are also beautiful editions of the Editorial Chessy Tournament of San Sebastián 1991, or the Super-Tournament of San Sebastián of 1912, or about the strong Peruvian GM Julio Granda, by James Alvis or the most complete edition of the Classic Geller games by himself, and endings, soviet articles, etc.etc..

Yes... a publisher of Treasures in Spanish language.

I was aware about chessy, a great books and company leaded by the GM Alfonso Romero. @ffolkes, I'm not aware that the books are in English, at least all of the chessy catalog, but maybe I'm wrong.

Too bad, it looks like a fantastic book.
