FLASHBACK: The 1941 Soviet Russian Set

Gr-r-reat set, goodknightmike, gr-r-reat set! Keeping my eyes peeled.
Thanks UpcountryRain, I'm glad you enjoy it as much as I do. When can we expect some pics of your Latvian set?

Yikes, those are some big-ass pawns (I like big pawns). Looks like they've been raised on Wheaties and vodka?!

Good points Lou! I like big-ass Pawns too, that's one reason I like collecting Soviet sets, as many of these sets feature big wide-based Pawns.

WOW! Those are the closest I have seen to the illusive "Tal Knights" ! At least I can say I found the very same clock and it is en route lol.

Thanks Ron, please post pics of your clock when it arrives

Sure thing Mike. It is coming from Ukraine so it will be a while lol.
With interest rising in Soviet Chess sets I think those who missed my previous post would enjoy some pics of this vintage set. Kings measure 4 1/8" in height with Pawns at 2 1/4". The pieces are not weighted. Original storage box/board shows lots of surface wear. Production date stamped inside the folding board. Kings and Queens show the typical Soviet style finials.
