Fritz 15 Question

Hi guys

Rather interested in purchasing Fritz 15 especially for the ELO Rated Opening, Middlegame and Endgame phase analysis which seems quite interesting.

I have one question regarding this feature though.

Can this be applied afterwards on games played on chess.com servers or is this feature only available when playing against the Fritz engine? I know English version will be available tomorrow but thought I might take a shot.

Perhaps someone know of an alternative?

Thanks in advance.

C-Crusher, thanks for attempting to answer the Q, but I am not doing an engine comparison here, merely the ELO-rating feature of the program.

I want to know if this rating will only be given if I play agaist the engine or if I can import a game played againt a human (site where I play does not matter, can even be an OTB game)

Stockfish won't ELO-rate your play either, so that post is pretty useless. It's quite possible that F15 can do such analysis post-game, with any engine, so for now wait for a post from someone who actually has the program and ignore clueless fanboys.

That feature is provided by the GUI anyway, I doubt many ppl will be buying Fritz 15 just for the engine.

:) Now that is the kind of answer I was looking for, someone who actually reads the post. Will take advice and rather wait until someone with program in hand can test and confirm.

I have Fritz 15 and the short answer seems to be no.

Thanks Crappov, I've gathered so much. Thanks for letting us know. Seems like a lot of potential buyers were looking for this specifec answer. Looking forward to further reviews.

I bought Fritz 15 and played it a bit last night and this morning. I used Deep Fritz 14 before for a while and this bit from the website  sounded really cool to me and influenced my decision to buy:

Another exciting element is the new evaluation function that analyzes your playing strength throughout the game. Where are your strengths – where are your weaknesses? The opening? Middlegame? Or perhaps the endgame? Fritz 15 gives you an ELO rating for all three phases! You definitely need to see this!”

Seeing that I am a very low rated player, the differences between 14 and 15 is not all that amazing to me. The two actually seems very-very similar – it simply seem like the Friend mode is now just a combination of Sparring and Friend mode from Fritz 14, it is no longer a Handicap number, but a rating number and after a few games it shows a graph like below that I also find only marginally useful and not such an “exciting element” as they made it out to be.

To answer your original question, this graph is also specific to Friend mode games, and there is no way I can find to analyse your own games from another game database or PGN file that will produce this specific chart.

So I guess if somebody ask me if they should buy it my recommendation is the same you would have found from people in the past with older versions – it is not really worth the money if it you have an older version of Fritz, and if the older Fritz engine really bother you that much you can always try to just substitute it with another engine like Stockfish.

Maybe also if you are short on money and don't have Fritz and really want it, then see if you can find a discounted older version - I would probably have been completely happy just using the old Fritz 12 that I got bundled with something else I bought and never would have needed something else Wink

Piettie, from one South African to another, thanks a million for the honest and detailed review. Much appreciated.

One of the recommended requirements for running Fritz 15 is Windows Media 11.

Windows 10 launched without Windows Media Player. Problem?

Piettie

I am running it on Windows 10 Home that came as standard on my small Windows Tablet, works perfectly and I did not need to install anything else.

Sounds good.

Many thanks.
