I suspect you'll have to use the PGNScid.exe utility to convert the database files before combining them. Go to the SCID Help file, then go to the index, and read the directions for "PGNScid".
Giant database woes! :(
Many thanks. Thanks to your information I now have a SCID database of 7.82 million games, and a PGN file of the same number.
The only problem now is that ChessKing fails at importing the PGN of all of the 7.82 million games! It can only manage to import 2.14 million of those games.
I don't know what to do next.
So I went ahead and bought Chess King 2016 Standard. So far, I find there is much to like about it. It only cost me £21.50.
However, the database features are inadequate. You cannot - as far as I can see - for example, rename, merge, or prune, databases for duplicates. These are serious limitations.
It comes with the GigaKing DB - nearly 6 million games. Imagine my surprise when I find that it doesn't include such important tournaments as Baden-Baden 1925!
But there's more. ChessKing balks and crashes when I try to import millionbase 2.2 PGN (2.2 million games).
SCID handles it fine. But when I try to import GigaKing PGN into SCID, SCID crashes.
What I want to do is merge GigaKing and millionbase 2.2 and then prune the duplicates.
SCID can't handle it. Chess King can't handle it. Don't tell me I have to fork out 100 Euros on ChessBase software in order to achieve this?
Or is there another way? Thanks.
