it may be over your budget, but it’s really cool!

Wow, that would stop people in their tracks grin.png

The same design is available also in ebony wood for dark pieces which looks black. The two links were just some examples. You can go through all chess options on their website and check which one you like that fits your budget. Chess bazaar is another online seller with affordable prices to have a look at. For boards, they are other vendors with inexpensive prices.

KnightsForkCafe

I believe this set up will fit your budget and will fit on smaller tables due to no border. However it still has tournament sized squares of 2.25". Tournament sized pieces as well in Rosewood under $100 USD + shipping. The board is around $55 USD.

OK, thanks I'll look into it -- I like the dark colors for the fields and then maybe a lighter dark for the pieces, like rosewood

Beautiful, I like the borderless board, but not sure if I prefer it to a "normal" -- but so beautiful

The wind in your hair, Molsons in the cooler, and RUSH on the radio. Wish I was there.

Hey, you're always welcome if you feel like making a trip to the north, eh

I've actually been to Canada 3 times. My stepbrother was a truck driver. He took me to Montreal, Toronto and out west to Edmonton. Calgary was a cool place to go through. I wish I could remember the bar outside Toronto we went to. They knew exactly where we were from. Apparently alot of Canadians stop around Cincinnati, OH/Florence, KY on they're way to Florida.

Of course all my travels were before 9/11 when you didn't need a passport to cross the border.

I lived in a suburb to Montreal for a couple of years, Longueuil, Quebec is great, people are friendly and the food is excellent, unfortunately my French isn't super, but can recommend it for vacation, especially the mountain area north of Montreal the Laurentians, beautiful in the summer, the mountains are not as tall as the Rockies, but there are no grizzlies and you can for the most walk to the top -- there are also ski sport areas.

I also lived close to Edmonton for a year or so, beautiful area but so cold in the winter

When we went to Edmonton it was funny. The sun was still out at midnight our time. 😎

@soulxeroxer The borderless board has potential to be a chess table drop in board. Along with a board that you can pop out of the table and bring it to the local chess club. Quite a versatile chessboard. That was the main reason I got the borderless chessboard.

How goes the hunt? Order anything yet?

Not yet, but I fancy the Dubrovnik Staunton pieces, that has a reciprocal dot on the bishops. I think I want them in black (so ebony or ebonized, not sure what’s best) and a slightly lightly coloured board.
