I always invite retailers to join chess.com and watch the forums, especially the chess books and equipment section.

I checked their website a few weeks back and the server was down or unreachable.

I also checked it just now and the server still down.

Most likely, the went out of business.

It's sad. I spoke with Steve last week, he closed the business a couple of months back; liquidated his stock, and sold off the domain name. It was impossible to remain in business when your major suppliers are selling direct, and when they steal your proprietary designs and sell them as their own! What can you say, apparently, there's no honor among thieves. Ethics be damned, the dollar is king!

Well, maybe he could stay in business with more reasonable prices and better customer service.. It took him weeks to reply to my messages, and his prices were overpriced by at least 20-30%. And I didn't see any "proprietary designs" among his sets.

If a chess equipment business can't figure out a way to make a profit during the Queen's Gambit era, I'm guessing something is fundamentally flawed with the business. How hard is it to contact Jura Buis Chavet in France and work out a deal to purchase, import and sell Chavet products in North America. You'll be the sole NA distributer of Jura Buis "Made in France" games, products and Chavet sets. That's worth something. Seriously, buy a freakin plane ticket and meet them in person to hash out a deal.

@ShelbyLohrman non-stop RT ticket to France is $900. It's a business expense wink.png
