@lighthouse? @ogouriev are both right about the sun. Sun will impact the color and tone. Birch and maple turns yellow. Walnut becomes lighter. Padauk, rosewood and others darken over time.
[HELP] CB Dubrovnik 3.0 - Photos and doubts
Nobody in the old times, and NO professional player now would care. It's only collectors who care. ![]()
Actually if ANY professional player would have cared it would probably have been Fischer.
"LOOK at this pawn...it's 2 full shades lighter than the rest. HOW CAN I BE EXPECTED TO PLAY UNDER THESE OUTRAGEOUS CONDITIONS!!!!! The Russians don't have to play with lighter pawns do they??? I want new pawns and a new CHAIR or the match is off" lol!

That was a good info @MCH818! Thanks for sharing it, completely new for me.
Thanks @felonet, at the end yes, I purchased a set that more or less covers my Dubrovnik desire.
Now I'm trying to find a good chessboard to enjoy a 100% de woodish experience.
Thans for visiting the thread! BR.

Totally agree! Maybe I shares with Fischer some of their "paranoid" thoughts about minor details.

If you are around Barcelona, why dont you pay a visit to Rechapados Ferrer and actually see the real options? Much better than looking at the internet. I like walnut/maple board with boxwood/padauk pieces. Taste cannot be discussed. It is a very personal choice, but over there, you can take some pieces and make some experiments of your own.
Un cordial saludo al compadre ajedrecístico! Ojalá encuentres el tablero adecuado!

Hi @ferpesan, thanks for your suggestion.
I'm from Spain, so it's easy to acquire a Rechapados Ferrer board, but I'm not able to visit the workshop to test the pieces
.
Your photo is very interesting,, because my set is on a similar color, and I was doubting about the color of the chessboard (walnut/maple or mahogany/maple), but yours shows amazing. It is walnut your color?
There are a lot of options here, and I dont know which to choose!

At least I think that I can check the mahogany on the boards of my club.
Thanks for your post!
I'm late to this conversation and this is my first post (long-time lurker), but I would just say your pics of that set are the best advertisement I've seen for that set.
I, personally, have been looking at Dubrovnik options, was considering CB 3.0, was a bit skeptical given the various comments around CB here, but your pics make me want to buy that set. I may go for Sheesham because I tend to prefer more brown tones over red - but the Rosewood is beautiful, and it looks especially great on the maple / walnut board ferpesan posted.
All around, beautiful choice, nice pics and thanks for posting!
Also, I am in the south of Portugal, so any tips you have on places to buy / view things nearby are much appreciated.

If you're considering sheesham, I'd say that the CB site's photos are good representations of what you can expect. Here's my amateur quick shot of the set on a maple and walnut board.

Mine is walnut.
Just came across John Bartholomew recommending Chess Bazaar, in particular the Dubrovnik:

Hi, awesome! Hope that the pictures helped you. If you need more details about any piece, please, ping me and I will upload whatever you want.
I'm not near Portugal, but sure that any web from shops based on Spain can deliver you any kind of material without extra costs.
My last purchase for example (chessboard) was from ajedrez21.com, but there are many others like lacasadelajedrez, peonnegro, ajedrezdemadera, etc.

Good combination!
Thanks @ffolkes, now that I'm using it analyzing some games and following some books, it's very pleasant to using it.

True! For me is very curious how many strong players, mainly GM or IM are true collectors of sets and boards.I would take a look on their personal collections if I can.
Just leave it in the sun , will soon turn darker !
Is this true @lighthouse? @ogouriev commented the same, but I'm not sure if you are trolling me. I never known that pieces on the sun tends to be more darker. Many thanks for the tip.
