If you google Fritz 5.32 download, you can that program for free. It can be used as a no frills chess engine, but really, I spent $30 on Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition and that has strategy tutorials and tactic hints. But, if you want to try something free first: Fritz 5.32!
I am looking for a program to play chess on my computer when i do not have a set with me. I have looked at a few programs but they all seem to have to much stuff with them like analizers, file converters and all kinds of side screens to tell me my moves. I just want a simple program that i can use to play a computer at different dificulty levels or a live person. Can anyone point me to a good free program. I have SCID right now but it has so much crap in it that i cant figure how to just play a game.
