Hi

I purchased this set in 1980 for the equivalent of USD 240 in today's dollars.  That was a reasonably expensive set then. To me it has always looked a standard Staunton design.  I don't know where it was made. I purchased it from a specialist chess store at the time that no longer exists . It might be Spanish because it has Ajedrez Stauton 6 printed on the end of the wooden sliding lid box.  Can anyone see anything in the design that relates to any chess event or era? it probably is a standard Staunton design 😁

Definitely a Staunton design chess set, very unique and nice set. How tall are the Kings?

it's a standard Spanish Staunton set. Pretty much every tournament and chess club in Spain use this particular set. If you look around in this forum, there are several threads reviewing this particular set in detail, including many pictures. I own a copy of this set myself and enjoy playing with it, as do several other regulars here.  Yours is unique in that the black pieces are actually black, rather than stained brown , which is the more common variation. I'm sorry to say you severely overpaid for this set - you can purchase it for around $100 these days.

You should be able to get a copy here (among many Spanish sites): http://www.ajedrez-webstore.es/

Thanks for the feedback. As I suspected a standard Staunton design. But great to play with. The King's are a touch over 3 and a half inches tall.

Looks great. If I knew where to buy it to be shipped from United States, I would.
