Help identify vintage set: Regency, German? French? Spanish? 1930s-1950s?

I think I found a mid-century Regency (Regence) style set, but I can't definitively identify it. Anyone out there familiar with where and when (and by which company) this set was made? Germany? France? Spain? Portugal? Any assistance identifying will be greatly appreciated: many thanks in advance!

It doesn't look French to me...the knights are usually bigger than that (scale wise) and the pawns are all wrong. Other than that, I couldn't say...hopefully someone far more knowledgeable will chime in shortly.

I'm beginning to think this is German 1940s-1970s era (West Germany?). I have found a few quite similar in material, design and execution online...haven't found an exact match yet...
