Help identifying a chess set - unique knight style

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help identify the chess set featured in the pictures below.  I purchased this set back in the 70's to replace a E.S. Lowe set that my dog chewed up (naughty boy).  I completely forgot about the set until I recently rediscovered it in a forgotten box.  The knights are unusual; I don't recall seeing a design like this before.  The set could be pine; at least thats how the grain appears to me, but I'm no expert in wood.

 

Any insight would be most appreciated.
