HOS Collector Set 4 Inch King

Sort:

Anyone know if this has been dicontinued by HOS.? The sets they show now the Bishops are different. The Bishops now only have regular slits & mine have the deep groved slits. Here are some pics.

When I visit the HOS site, the Collector's look the same as always.  Where do you find a listing with a changed bishop?

Thanks for pointing that out as I missed it.

9Kick9...Nice set,I see the HOS collector and the HOS Fischer set appear to be the same size and weight. The Ccllector set is 44.95 and the Fischer set is 19.95 can anyone give a comparison of quality between these two sets. Also the HOS site pictures are terrible, does anyone have pictures showing the difference in the ivory and natural colors of these sets.

I think all HOS plastic sets are excellent quality. My collector is very heavily weighted. I am not sure of the weighting on the Fischer set but, it looks great & the price is right too.

I just received my black/natural 3.75" Collector Series set and I am happy to report that it looks fantastic- especially the bishops! Of course my set was not perfect (Queen crown was broken with a scuffed pawn or two), but out of the 3 other HOS plastic sets I have, the 3.75" Collector Series looks by far the best, and now I just want to settle down with it and sell my other sets. It's the set's design and proportionality that make it look so good and so here are 3 bishops for you to compare. Also, the 3.75" plastic Collector Series I just purchased (July, 2015) is of a matte finish, and NOT glossy and shiny (which is way too distracting for my taste). I will soon make my own post and compare all my sets with lots of photos (Collector, Zurich, Reykjavik, and the Fischer) and let the viewer see how they compare. For now, though, are these 3 Bishops in this order-  Collector Series, Zurich, and Reykjavik. All are 3.75" and in blk/nat. And I hope this helps with deciding on what set you'd like to have, but again, the Collector Series is just great.

Quickly- the first pic is the Collector, Reykjavik, and Zurich.... the rest are from L to R- the Collector, Zurich, and Reykjavik

Are you going to ask HOS to replace the damaged queen?  Perfection in plastic might be asking too much, but a premium set shouldn't arrive with chipped pieces, IMO.

Edit: I agree that the Collector is a great looking plastic set!  It has a classic look and is well proportioned. I love mine.  I just want HOS to correct the quality issues with this set.

Hey, Crappov- I agree with you but I didn't think of doing that because I would assume(?) that I would be responsible for shipping? We already pay a lot for S&H but would they cover that? And it was 2 Queens with broken crowns. I post pics later, but funny that is was one of each color

I don't know about the shipping.  I suggest you call them and complain.  Two damaged queens is unacceptable and they should be willing to make it right, at no cost to you.  If they do make you pay shipping, it should be only a few bucks.

Franquis

That's the right type of thinking...... I'm going to do just that- complain!!! because I've read too many posts about HOS and their dropping the ball way to many times. Thx for encouragement and that really is the correct thing to do as a customer

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to the comparison pics of these nice sets.

9kick9- sure thing. I've been really busy lately, but I am looking forward to posting a nice summary and lots of pics between the sets. I want others to be able to judge for theirselves on what sets suit them and how they compare in size, color, aesthetic, etc., but to repeat, my total preference is the Collector Series, and I just got it! I know there's others like me too, who just enjoy looking at other's sets and taking in the view. Thx, guys-
