Life & Games of Mikhail Tal I'm wondering how you read this? There is a lot of narrative, so I want to read the story, but I feel obligated to play out the games to understand his words better. Stopping to play the games ends the reading flow and usually requires a board or computer. Some lines he gives are 40+ moves... too much for me to follow in my head. Did you feel playing out the games was necessary? Did you seek the PGNs somewhere and use your phone? Thanks.

Step 1: turn the light on!  ;-)

Just plan to read it (at least) twice - once (or twice) for enjoyment and the again (and again...) for study.

His account of the WCC victory over Botvinnik is written in a similar manner. You might want to put  that on the 'to read' list afterwards. Though less biographical content of course, but there is a good explanation of his approach to the games and the psychological factors in choice of style and opening.
