How Do You Orient Your Knights?

Here's a fun topic:

How do you orient your Knights on your side when you are playing a Chess Game?

I personally like to angle the Knights to face the center, vertical line of the board.  This way they are easily seen as Knights which would be harder when they are facing forward.  They are also easily grasped for play.  And they are symmetrical.

What do you folks do?

It is a fun topic, but it was even more fun last week. Wink

My Bad!!!

I guess I need to start reading other forums on here other than this one.

Don't worry, there is a "who was the best player ever" topic popping up just about once a week.

Didn't mean to make you feel bad, honest.  I just thought you might be a little dissapointed if no one posted and you were left wondering why.

Thanks.

It is interesting that in the couple of threads on the subject, very little has been posted on how players really prefer to orient their Knights or have no preference whatsoever.

Sure, the one thread is about World Champions and how they seem to prefer their setups.  But, the one that you link to has more talk about the names of the pieces and other fluff than how they prefer their Knights.

I know that it really doesn't matter.  I guess I just put mine in a way that is easy to see and easy to grip.  Oh yeah, I guess I also want my really nice Knights to intimidate my opponent's pieces...

Isn't/wasn't Karpov fussy about this?

FWIW (which is very little), I like to face my knights slightly inward - i.e. QN to right, KN to left if I am white.

Pulpofeira because it's a board game with a clock, not a clockgame with a board.

Actually I know the rules, tell it to people who start a thread complaining about it every day, that's what I was spotting.

When a chess board is properly set up all four Knights should face each other. I.E. face on. After the Knights move, you can place them any way you wish.

Are you citing a reference on this or is this your thought on the matter?

This is incomprehensible

The Knights are set up this way in World Championship pics I have seen. All four Knights were faceing each other across the board.  Other than this I guess it really dosn't matter.

A knight is a person.  The piece you're speaking of, I believe, is a horse.  Thus, it should be called, Horsey.

I always orientate them to the East! (it has a symbolical value, cf.: http://www.amazon.com/The-Journey-East-Hermann-Hesse/dp/1891396889)
