heard lot of masters recommend this three books. so i decide to choose this to improve my strategy

but will it be too hard for me??  er...my rating is about like 1350 - 1450.

GKfreak

i ask this because i scared its like My System, for quite high level players

AndyClifton

I would probably wait until I was a B player (say, 1700).

goldendog

My System--USCF 1500 was about right, imo.

What year are these books? I am new to buying books as of recently. How much i might get it this week or i go to the book store and review it. Either way i could you my input on it for what it is worth.

As i only buy books that i know will improve my game or they stay in the store, they may be good but not for me or not at the moment.

AndyClifton

Anyway, I didn't like Nimzo too much.

goldendog

At least the 1500 of a few decades ago.

AndyClifton

They're old.  Both of them.

AndyClifton

My 1500 wouldn't have been enough for MS.  I would say 1700 for that one too (although again I would read something else--like Pachman--if I had the choice).

The pedagogical method has advanced in chess books since 1930.

That there are better books to study from is no blasphemy.

AndyClifton

Damn (I like blasphemy!).  And blasphemy on Christmas...wow!  I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

royalbishop

The other option get the book! When you feel you are able to understand it then you start immediately others a chance you may put it off, off and off. If the book is as good as you believe it is get it. This will force you to improve your skills to read it as you will have made a committment with buying the book.

Also after buying the book just take your time reading or ask questions on sections on the book. Post your inquires in forums an wait for response, Easy!

goldendog

I'm more familiar with Euwe's middlegame books than Pachman's (single volume).

His seems modern and more easily accessed.

Nimzo needed some algebra.

Easy!

lol

royalbishop

? The book is from the 1930 period. Aaaaah

Hey an old stategy could work. I have caught many players off guard sleeping on some old strategies. lol.

On the other side of this if you want to improve your defense and just starting off then nothing worse than losing to a strategy that is almost ........... 100 years old, ouch. A case of what you do not know can hurt you.

GKfreak

@goldendog : so u suggest me to read Euwe's the 2 middlegame books instead of pachman's 3 volumes??

just give any recommendation, i will really appreaciate it, coz i havent get that three books too

AndyClifton

I sure wouldn't.  Pachman is the man!

goldendog

Look up Stean's Simple Chess.

Never seen a copy but people are over the moon for it.

royalbishop

That book is getting great reviews. >>>>Stean's Simple Chess.

But why is the book so cheap even cheaper if a used book.

AndyClifton

Yes, I thought Stean was very good too.  It's a small book (which could be the reason for the low price tag).
