I need help with this Staunton

Sort:
brasileirosim

I bought this set in Brazil,  although I am not sure if it is originally from there. The King is 10 cm, Basis 4.6 cm. Quite heavy.
I appreciate any information you can provide regarding this set. For example,  how old it is. I couldn't find a similar set in my books or Internet.

Thanks for your help.

Nice looking set , The rooks look very small for this size set ?

brasileirosim

Yes, and the form of the rooks is also special (the top).

Still nobody who can say something about this set?

Look like a English set with some kind of grounded Rooks , As the rooks are way to small without the battlements , Or so the base of the rooks looks wrong for the size . A mixed set ?

This is going on posted photo etc so can be wrong ?

I agree with lighthouse, the Rooks look like they may not be original to the set.

The wood, patina and even felt are telling me that all pieces belong to one set. Yes, the rooks don't have the usual high, but the basis from the rook is the same diameter as the knights and bishops. You know, you can put these rooks to any other set, and they would be too small in these other sets, as the disparity between diameter of the basis and size is always unusual.

Brazilians Stauntons sets deviate a lot from the usual Stauntons: the knights are weird, and in several sets the bishops are too high.

And although this specific set is not typical brazilian, they could be produced in Brazil and show some weird features (and I bought this set there).
