etsy and ebay have lots of original Soviet style chess set - no extra queens though. For reproduction, you can't go wrong with the NOJ Tal.

If I do decide to get another set(highly probable) after my soon to be ordered 1940 Soviet Pieces from CB,which came with a big thumbs up from Goodnightmike(someone I trust) it will definitely be the NOJ TAL pieces! I can afford these,but it comes down to do I really have the desire to own so many sets,which I'm at around 13 or 14 tournament sets and 3 compact ones currently,along with 3 nice boards.....I've touched base with NOJ and hey seem like top notch folks.

I agree with Fer, I have a Peter Ganine tournament set that is every bit as beautiful as any of the traditionally designed pieces ive seen (thats my opinion of course, but to call figurines as chess figures ridiculous is dumb. If it draws people to the game that normally wouldn't have been interested with Stanton design than you should let it be).
Even a fancy set like "The Simpsons" or "Lord of the Ring" could be used in Official Tournament as long as they match the mandatory specs (size, distinc pieces, king/queen hats, etc.)

Stauntonmaster.....Why don't you simply start a "Chess Blog" if you are so inclined to educate the buying public? Makes more sense to me,instead of getting flamed here! There's too much water under the bridge on this forum for you......Just a thought.
FIDE says Staunton is "recommended", it does not say "only" nor does it say "required".

I am sure he has handled hundreds of Howard Stauntons, he will soon tell us that the modern ones have weak jaws and tend to be a bit cracked...

Ok, But that doesn't mean that all other sets that meet tournament standards are illegal. People likeing the design and choosing to play with it over all others doesnt implythat all others are banned from tournament play...So besides saying the same thing OVER AND OVER again without hard proof or any quotes from sources (unlike those who are countering your argument instead of choosing to rebuttal in insults),thisis getting wildly off topic and as the OP I dont find it particularly productive or necessary towards what I was gong for with my initial post.
