Iconic Soviet Grossmeister Chessmen

An excellent and very rare specimen of the iconic Soviet Grossmeister chessmen, circa 1960. Heavily weighted for high level tournament play. All wood knights. Shown with a Rechapados Ferrar board and Soviet Jantar clock. Special thanks to Ron Harrison for bringing it to my attention.

That's one fine set. And there's no apparent chips and cracks, just surface wear and tear.

Very nice. I like the fact that this set seems to be 100% wood. No plastic in sight. I am currently eying up a similar set on ebay (if someone doesn’t bag it first) 😬

Would you ever refinish a set like this or is that just not done?
