FOR CURRENT NEWLY MANUFACTURED SETS ONLY PLEASE :)

If you could own only one of the many "wooden" modern chess sets that are currently being manufactured, and price was Not a consideration, which one would you choose ?

I have two of them in olive, and about other 6 in different woods and plastic. The olive one is my favourite due to the grain of the wood. No extra queens, not weighted, but still my pick.

The more expensive or carefully carved is not always the best set, in my opinion.

I really wanted a Parthenon set from HOS but, apparently, they are no longer being made. There really isn't anything out there I want too much but I guess I'll go with the Frank Camaratta signature set. That knight is incredibly detailed yet not ostentatious.

A set that has really caught my eye recently yet isn't very expensive is the Leeds set, also from HOS.

Schachmonkey

A custom early Jaques by Alan Dewey or more real world A Dubrovnik by Noj not sure which one.

Hey Gomer... I really like this set from HOS as well. But I surely do like that other company's stamp on the king... :)

Hey Rob,
Is that the New Cooke? Both the old and new Cooke sets are very nice. I prefer the New Cooke a little more than the old.

I considered one of the top of the line Jaques sets but I don't really care for the knight as much as the one in the Camaratta set. Also, even though money is no object, I think the Jaques sets are priced about $3,000 too high. That's too much  to pay for a stamp.

Couldn't agree more on the Jaques price Gomer. I think they would sell a lot more sets with the stamp if they were priced right. On the HOS ... Yep that's the new Cooke limited to 50... Think they did a nice job on the knight remake... I think that everyone that collects should have at least one Jaques stamped in their collection. It's to bad they are sooooooo overpriced for the name. I don't mind paying for a quality set but when a chess set made of wood costs as much as some Harley's... Well y'all get my point...

vkappag

i would spend it on anything other than chess sets.

sorry, but as an amateur player, all i need is a cheap plastic set... very rarely do people come to tournaments with wooden sets...

and at home, most of my chess book reading is done on a computer with Stockfish.

and im not much of a collector.

without money as a concern... i would first puchase a warehouse... then the chessmen to fill it...

it is tuff to pick just one Laughing

might as well setup a few tables too and call it a chess club/museum.
