well, this Susan Polgar set is still at $61 bucks and they won't ship to outside of USA, so if anyone wants it, it looks pretty sweet.

it sold for $125. Someone got a nice set for a bargain.

Rsava

Yeah, I was bidding on it. In the last 15 sec it went from 64 - 125. It was too fast for me to put bid on it again.

too bad. I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know how that happens, I guess someone is just comfortable putting a high bid on it, knowing full well that their high bid will still be a bargain, so they prebid, and watch the show. Too bad you lost it. It was a sweet one. I imagine another one will come by. Good luck.

I agree, those knights are a total turn off.

No, thats not how ebay works.

I put in a bid for $62 saying I would go up to $75. Someone came along and bid $63 so Ebay upped my bid to $64.

As i was watching (IIRC) the bids went to $75 (mine), $95, $110 then finally $125.

It is called sniping.

this just in. a chessboard for buy it now of a mere US$2800. Seller will ship it for free if you're in the USA.  Yah, that attitude you're detecting is not your imagination.

thanks. I had no idea. So people can hire a company to do this sniping for them. Terrible. Too bad. I mean, all's fair in love and war I guess. but I don't really think so.

yeah, i saw that as well. The board is beautifully crafted and uses expensive woods (Amboyna Burl, BEM, Ebony frame w/ Spalted Maple accents), but you should be able to get this same board custom-built by someone like customchess.com for half the ebay asking price...

yes that's what I thought. Someone (maybe you) posted about custom chess last week or a couple of weeks ago...I looked up that guy's website, and this looks just like what he does, and he charges at most half of that price. (but will he deliver for free in the US ;->) alright, I think I've been staring at this screen for too long.

you know I didn't notice about the knights until people pointed out that they didn't like them. And someone said something like the knights have mad cow disease. And when I looked at them again and saw the holes in their ears...I saw something creepy in them too. Maybe they look nicer in person (horse-on?). anyway, I'm not getting that set. Too much uncertainty for too much money.
