Is this set really a Drueke?

https://youtu.be/-pCwuj49qAs

It's the Drueke "Player's Choice" plastic set, the last set that they, and later, "Carrom", the company that acquired them, ever produced, that people were and still are wild about. Their wooden sets and earlier style plastic sets have never been all that terribly popular.

Thank you for the replies and for the video link. That was very informative. I have the same Drueke board shown in the beginning of the video. I guess I scored getting the pieces for free, although one pawn looks like a puppy chewed on it. Funny, they aren't as elegant and I don't like them as much as my $150 Staunton set I bought on ebay from India. That is why I bought the Drueke board, for the set from India. Thanks again for your help. Best regards, Ken
Decent set though I ended up not caring for the aesthetics after a while.

I feel like you do IamMrDan. I just don't think the design is aesthetically pleasing. I think the relative proportion of some of the pieces are off a bit. I do think the rosewood is gorgeous and very nice. I can see why the set isn't collectible and didn't sell particularly well.

When I purchased a vintage Drueke chess board from David Lawless, Regency Chess Canada, it came with wooden chess pieces. They seem to be made in India.

The wooden pieces are different from any Drueke set. The plastic set posted on here is Drueke through.
Agree Totally but it was puzzling for me as well how Drueke was offering wooden chess pieces with their board. This was the blog post by David Lawless on Drueke board he sold. I bought the 21" Drueke Tournament chess set.

They may have outsourced its production to India... I'm not sure... but it IS a Drueke set. Model # 820.40. Here's a link to an old online chess store that sold them: http://chessexpress.stores.yahoo.net/roschespiec.html
chess opera I'm sorry but you are mistaken. Drueke was bought by Carrom games in the 90s, and this was a genuine Drueke set sold at that time. I know because I bought one (with a drueke board) from a chess store. It's not a copy or a knock off.
Yes, Drueke had plastic sets, but they also had wood sets through the years. This one may have been produced elsewhere but it was sold as Drueke model #820.40
Here's the old defunct Amazon listing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001SY177C/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

I have exactly the same set and it is made in India
Can you post a picture of it sitting right next to your Greco’s Chess Games published in 1710. ?
Come one @Chessopera Let's have some fun and turn this into a troll vs troll thread.
I owned that wood set in the 1990's and it was sold by Drueke. Of course it was most likely made in India but it is a Drueke set.

As already stated these were not as popular as the plastic Drueke Player's choice. They did make a 3.75 king plastic version of this wood set though it was also not very popular (see below)
I have 4 of those plastic sets - got them in one bag at a thrift store several years back. No idea how they wound up there but I am guessing someone had a chess club that didn't prosper.
Not a terrible set - especially since I got them really cheap.
This Indian pseudo drueke is still being sold. The bases of the chessmen are not perfectly round, in fact, some of mine are almost oval.
No, they were real Drueke sets with the Drueke label on them and were sold by Drueke.

Some plastic Drueke sets are very rare and valuable such as their Jaques style 3.75” king set. Amazing set and very heavily weighted, perfect for tournament play. All the Drueke sets are plastic and very high quality.
Don't change the subject.
The set in question is a wood set that also is a Drueke set, no matter how much you protest...

Why do you keep jumping in people’s threads? Mind your own business! Noone is talking to you. You are blocked because of nuisance and interference. Speak when you are spoken to. Go away now!
Quoting because I am sure Stauntonmaster will change the post and I want it to be here forever.
Obviously Eyechess struck a nerve.

Why do you keep changing the subject Stauntonmaster? The thread is about a wooden Drueke set, yet you keep talking about plastic sets.
Not to mention, people that are very knowledgeable about chess sets say that the OP set is a set sold by Drueke, yet you keep saying it is not. Then you deflect to a different subject, just like you used to do when you had your Stauntonmaster account.
I recently bought a Drueke chess board used and as an afterthought the guy said he had some chess pieces that might go with it. I am only familiar with the Player's Choice plastic sets I used in the 80's.
I found these pictures online and it is the same as the set I got, although mine isn't as nice and has been used whereas the set in these pictures was listed as new.
The Kings are 3.75" tall and weighted @ 2.4 oz. The Queens are 3.25" tall and weighted @ 2.2 oz. The Knights are 2 11/16" tall and weighted @ 1.8 oz. The Bishops are 2 5/8" tall and weighted @ 1.6 oz. The Rooks are 2" tall and weighted @ 1.5 oz. The Pawns are 1.5" tall and weighted @ 1 oz.
Thanks, Ken
