As you say DGT do offer their electronic pieces in both weighted and unweighted versions, so adding weights must be possible.
I found a picture of the sensors which DGT used to sell separately:
Also some information of the holes required.
"The big ones are for the King, Queens (2) and rooks, the smaller ones for the other pieces. You have to make the holes yourself or have them made by a specialist. This should be done very carefully, there is a serious risk to damage the chess piece for ever if you don't do it right. The size of the hole you have to make in the pieces is 12 x 27 mm for the big ones and 12 x 14 mm for the small ones."

This is the link to the chess set that I bought earlier today.
I was originally going to get the normal version of the pieces but I wound up realising that the normal pieces won't be weighty enough for what I'm trying to do, myself being a serious OTB player and all.
It said on here that people can buy DGT resonators to put under the pieces themselves but I still have some questions, especially regarding how the pieces can be somehow "weighted" and still be DGT pieces.
I also heard on here that weights would interfere with the DGT technology and would harm the capabilities of the board detecting pieces. But then there are still "weighted" DGT pieces despite this.
So does that mean you put the weights in first before putting the DGT resonators in so that the resonators are untouched?
Or do the resonators themselves have weighted versions that people use for the games?
Is there anybody here that can enlighten me on this? The hope is that I have my own DGT setup in the near future so that when I bring it I would have less trouble notating my OTB playing.
Please don't judge my chess.com rating, I play OTB exclusively.
