I've created a customizable chess tactics training program.

Hello all. I'm back from university over summer break, and I finally got around to making the chess training program that I had been thinking about for a long time. Open Chess Tactics allows the user to input their own positions from FEN strings along with the "correct" move and allows the user to train on said positions. It's written in Qt/C++ and completely open source and free. Here's the official sourceforge page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openchesstactics/. Look through the README to understand how to use it.

EDIT:

In response to all the earlier posts regarding the resolution bug. The bug has been fixed, and the fixed program uploaded. Thank you all for your help! Again this software is licensed under the GPL and the source code is available on the github link located on the frontpage of the sourceforce project page.

I don't want to download it; do I have to to use it?

ezhang2

Yes. The source is available though if you are truly suspicious. Feel free to virus scan away. I assure you that the program is safe. I am posting here to spread the word. If nobody decides to use it, then I guess I'll be its sole user.

I'm scared

I can't seem to view the code without downloading it first. Is this the case?

(I am a computer science student, so I would like to take a look)

EDIT: NVM, found it.

I ran into a problem right out of the gate:

Details?

ezhang2

If you would look more closely, you would see that the sourceforge page has a link to the github: https://github.com/eqzhang/Tactics. Any suspicions regarding this being malware can be cleared by simply looking at the source. Hopefully a fellow computer programmer on here will confirm that I am sincere.

What resolution are you using? even on my laptop that is 1366x768 I don't have this problem. But if any of you had doubts, pawpatrol has been good enough to show you all that this is indeed what I said it was.

I_Am_Canadian

@pawpatrol whats seems to be the problem?

Pre_VizsIa

I was faster, sorry about the confusion (see edited comment above).

So far the code looks legit.

1440x900

ezhang2

Hmmm. I can reproduce your problem now. I'll have to add resizeability to the issues list.

Pre_VizsIa

I have a 1440 x 900 as well.

<height>1164</height>

Yeah, this might not work too well.

If this gets fixed, please say so but until then there is no point in downloading it, at least for me :(
ezhang2

I'm fixing it as we speak.

ezhang2, If you want to pulicize it, I would suggest putting this program in the downloads section.

Edit: I downloaded it it and I have the same resize problem.

That's great!  Problem is, a wise entrepreneur would have spent his time marketing it to potential endorsers and or buyers instead of writing a blog about it.  I should be thanking you though.  A friend of mine has been working on one as well, and the information you've so foolishly posted (for free) is due to make him a fortune.  Salut!
