KILLER DUTCH

The Killer Dutch looks like it will get a refreshment in May 2015 as the USA gets a new book on the Dutch. As far as I know Simon Williams is the expert on this opening as he had an older book & DVD out.

Anyone here play it?

I was surpised and very excited to learn that GM Simon Williams is flying to Davenport Iowa of all places and will be just one of the celebs at the Chess Festival taking place this fall Oct 24 & 25.  Bob Long from Thinkers Press has been doing Chess Festivals over the past decade or two.  Since this even isn't on the web I thought I would mention it since I mentioned the Dutch book by GM Williams.

Email Bob for futher details if you want to learn more about the events and celebreties that will attend the Chess Festival 2015. Or call him at 563-271-6657.   I am not affiliated with Bob Long but am a chess collector whose path has crossed many times over the years. I bought the 1st issue ever of the American Chess Bulletin from the Cambridge Springs Tournament from 1904. That is what stuff he has besides all the newer books.

Anyways I am a fan of the Dutch and can't wait for his new book to come out in about 6 weeks.  Love to keep chess exciting vs. boring and at age 64 I need excitement in my life.  Cool

Rep books are nice but, you get the main variation plus a ton of sub variations.. Way too much for a normal mind to digest IMO. Bob Long does not float my boat with past dealings with him personally. Yell

Hey Mike, The Killer Dutch is now avaiable fron Chess4Less. Greg gets Everyman books before everyone else in the US. I got my copy from him 2 weeks ago.

It depends how much you like the opening I guess.

On Bob I have enjoyed and bought all the Purdy Books his publishing company has put out. If it wasn't for him pursuing the Purdy writings only one Purdy book would have been published which would have went out of print decades ago.  He puts out chess publications that are different than other companies. Heck I still have the first edition of How to Reassess Your Chess By Silman he published with him.  I do respect your opinion. It is just I get excited since a Chess Festival is something that doesn't happen often. I can't help it I am an addicted collector of books mostly but am not afraid to give somethng away for free like I did with the ACB #!#! to someone who has devoted much time in researching that Tournament (it found the best home ever).

Thanks Mike I didn't know that. USA is uasually a couple months behind Europe as the "official" release date in the USA is May 7th.

The owner of that site Chees4Less I beleive is from England and has an employee in Florida for USA sales. In fact that is who Bob Long sold his web site, and customer list to a few years back.

I am also waiting for Liquidation on the Chess Board, maybe I should check his site for that too although soon it will be released here in a couple weeks.

GNM I like the way Everyman and also Quality prints a book, what I mean by that is the paper, layout, print, and just the way a book opens up. Since many of my books are falling apart by the spine since they were Tartan or Dover edition books years ago I appreciate a quality produced book.

I didn't know Williams was putting out new Dutch material.

I've had his original book and Killer Dutch DVD, and used the Classical Dutch as my main black opening against just about anything but 1. e4 for years. I've had some decent results with it, and it leads to some exciting games, but I feel like I've been stagnant with it lately.

Also, I'm trying to improve overall as a player, so I've been playing through old books of annotated master games, and trying to switch to more mainstream openings like I read about in those books. So I've actually been thinking of switching to the QGD as my main defense against 1. d4.

So I probably won't check out the new Dutch material, but it's good to know about it, just in case I ever change my mind.

The Everyman books I have are A-1 as far as the large print & diagrams.! Bob Long is real good at tooting his own horn IMO. I will not buy anything from Bob Long again JMO.

I found out the other day I could have ordered it from Chess4Less in the hard cover.  I also understand if you are a Chess subscriber (UK Mag) you get 10% off at the site in the USA.  He also carries I beleive more hard cover books from Quality than anyone else I have come accross and gets them in stock weeks before anyone else.  He also turns all orders around in 24 hours gives great service. If any thing i like to see more is a better packaging job to insure no corners are dinged especially when ordering $40 HC books.  But so far eveything has come through great but no bubble wrap to protect the books. Greg does a fantastic job all around!!!!!

Agreed, getting the Everyman books weeks before anyone else is nice. I've had many satisfied book purchases from Greg. And its nice that  he offers many books in hartdback
