Kodi & U

I have recently come  across a great new software program that is entirely free--Kodi. If interested in downloading it you can google it. Kodi is a media viewer, like WMP on steriods. One of the addons for Kodi is YouTube which contains thousands of videos about chess and Kodi is an excellent way to view these files. It is much better than the online viewer YouTube provides because there is  less buffering and Kodi provides a sound amplifier. I am mentioning it here because I am interested in finding out how many chess.com users also have found this free download and I am looking for more addons that include chess videos. So if anyone knows of any such addons, please do let me know.

Kodi is more than a "media veiwer" like WMP.

Kodi is a complete home theater/media system, designed to be setup in a Server/Client configuration. It is was formerly called XBMC (XBox Media Center). It has been around since 2002.

There are others out there (such as Plex and Emby) that do as much or maybe even more but the open source nature of Kodi and the user community makes the number of add-ons and plug-ins for Kodi much higher.

Here is a search for Kodi repositories ("repos") that may help you find more chess stuff:

Glad that I found someone who knows something about this! I've heard of it before but could not download it because I had an old computer that ran XP but I recently upgraded to Win10 and was finally abou to download it. I was primarily interested in the amplifier because I have a hearing problem when watching some of the YouTube videos but this amplifier does solve the problem. I am also interested in watching movies and documentaries and found that the repositories contain many, many, many of those. I know about the chess videos in YouTube and am now looking for more chess videos. The link you sent me does not seem to work. I clicked it and just get a blank page. I copied it and pasted it into google and get a list of repositiories. I already learned from YouTube about how to download repositories and I have a ton of them and a ton of addons as a result. I want to find out if there are other addons besides YouTube that contain chess videos and documentaries. Also what is a "Server/Client configuration?" Thanx for whatever information you can give me!

Sorry, I only use Kodi in hotels when I travel with my FireTV Stick, so I don't really have many add-ons installed.

A "Server/Client" is designed to have a "Server" application (Kodi) serve up media (video and music) to a client. Most installs have it all on the same device but sometimes the "server" component is a separate computer. You supply your own media, either stored locally or streaming from the internet.

For instance, I use Plex (an offshoot of XBMC, www.plex.tv). I have a fairly simple system of a Mac Mini running as a server, 12 TB of network storage holding my media, and 6 clients (3 Rokus, FireTV, Vizio SMartTV, and a Google ChromeCast) in the house that stream in different rooms as well as all of our mobile devices (4 phones and 5 tablets) for when we are on the road. I am never without my media collection when I am on the road.

If anyone else out there in chess.comland uses Kodi and knows of any addons besides YouTude that has anything about chess do let me know. For example I found "Pawn Sacrifice" on one of the movie addons but it didn't play well enough, to much stopping and starting.

Just download (from Genesis, NaviX etc) if your connection speed is too slow, which is what the starting & stopping points to (buffering)...love my digistreamer with thumb drive =)
