And for good reason!  Well done steady steed.

That Knight on e5 is a dangerous lad.

Gorgeous pieces and board, and nice photos. My favorite part, however, was the play by play announcing. Thanks for posting this, Chuck. It gave my day a nice start.

You're very welcome, Jon!

This is a very nice presentation, Chuck.

I own the same set and was planning on using it for the first real game last Monday evening for our City Championship round.  Alas, my opponent called me about an hour before begging off for the night as he had exams the next day that he had to study.  We will be making up the game later.

I now have this set, with a Drueke linen folding board, waiting for the next round in a week and one day.

But getting back to this thread, I really like the looks of the set in play.

Thanks, Ron! I'm confident you'll like the way it plays. It has a good heft to it.

Thanks for the post, Chuck.

The Official Staunton Leuchars is a very attractive set and fits the 2.25" board nicely.  I went to the Official Staunton website to check the king's dimensions and was pleasantly surprised by the price.  Yes, the black pieces are ebonized rather then ebony, but still you can't beat that price, certainly not at House of Staunton.

By the way, the board shows off the pieces nicely, but you know that. grin.png

Best,
Bob

Many thanks, Bob! It's a lovely set and a joy to play with. I love that board, and its larger 2.375" cousin. The HOS chess table it's resting on also has 2.375" squares and the mahogany, maple, and rosewood combination, but the set was really lost on squares that large. There is a big disparity between the base sizes of the kings and pawns, making it somewhat difficult to pair.

Yes, Chuck, I have the same problem with my old HOS Capablanca set.

Hmmm. Perhaps that's why I thought the board looked a bit bigger. The bases of those pawns do look a tad smaller than maybe I would like them to be personally. Then again, I've gotten used to Carl's 3,5 inch king set by now, having played many games on it with a friend of mine. That set's got pawns with massive bases.

Yeah, on a smaller board the kings would look a bit cramped, though I guess that's more the British style.

Beautiful set, those Black pieces where no match from the start on that note did you play white or both?

Many thanks. Truth be told, I was White.

Aha! Thought so.

Sorry Chuck I thought that was the overstamped set which is out.

Chuck, you've raised the standard for chess set presentation in this forum yet again! The move by move pictorial gives the reader a fourth dimensional aspect that nearly imputes the missing stereoscopic view on computer screens. What's next? I still have my 3D glasses...😁

Indeed, this method of recording and presenting games will soon replace algebraic notation.

Yeah, I think that one has a new antiquing process as well.

Many thanks, Mark! Hold on to those 3D glasses...

Chuck, I have had 5 months to ponder your pics of the OS Leuchars set, and have been eyeing images of HOS' version of the Leuchars.  The HOS set looks a bit more stocky, especially in the bishops.  Do you have or have you seen the HOS version?
