Local find, complete boxed set Dal Negro 85mm glasseyed Lardy.

MCH818

Nice one!

Another local find, those bishops odd head shapes and the chubby pawns are funny. KH 9cm and heavily weighted. I found out this set was made by Edition Berlin, a German manufacturer. The model is proBase 521. According it's description the design is based on American chess set from beginning of 20th century. I tried to look that up but can't find anything about the American set it was based on.

Michael     This set looks a little like the Drueke   82040  wood set. I have  what might be a copy of the drueke wood  set.  The wood is so bad, that some of the white pieces are oval. I have also seen a smaller version of this set  (  3 od 2.5"  king).  This set   looks like the one on the post   IS THIS SET A DRUEKE ?

TheOneCalledMichael

Ah right! Thanks mister Zimba! So it was a Drueke 820.40 the description of EB was referring to. I was using google all night yesterday looking at images trying to match but couldn't find anything.

@mister G0VED0 this set seems fine, no cracks at all. Judging from the patina it has, it must have been really old.

Chavet 202/50 VB. I thought I bought a grey version but it turns out to be dark green. I never knew there was this dark green color, the green version that I always see is bright green. The lacquer of the pieces is in bad shape, the board is still fine.

MCH818

I actually thought it was gray too. I didn't realize it was green until you mentioned it. I cannot see the bad lacquer though. The red one still looks the best.

TheOneCalledMichael

The most obvious are the green knights, there you'll see the lacquer is peeling off. Although green brings out my green sunglasses beautifully, green is not really my thing. I wonder what color of wooden pieces goes with that green board.

Yup, the red one is the best.

MCH818

Oh I see it now. It is hard to tell with the pieces painted the way they are. As for the board, I am not sure, but you can't go wrong with boxwood/ebony or painted black/white like the Soviet 1940 set from CB/HoS.

Bargain hunting business is slow these days, got only this another odd size 48mm board.

SpanishStallion

Problem with Chavet chess set is the kings are too small for standard chess and  3.75” Chavet king is almost impossible to find.

TheOneCalledMichael

What do you mean too small by standard chess?

SpanishStallion

Henry Chavet chess sets are king height around 8 cm whereas standard king height is 9.5 cm.

TheOneCalledMichael

The one above is 8.6cm. I also have 9cm and 9.5cm. Just like any other sets Chavet has size 0 till 6 for the regular sizes. If you mean the bigger size Chavet's are hard too find yeah that's true, that's why they fetch high prices when one becomes available on the used market.

Nice board Michael!

Bronco

Michael, my local finds look nothing like yours.
Do you need a roommate? 😀

TheOneCalledMichael

Sorry mister Bronco, I have already applied to be mister Walter's roommate. My local finds look nothing like his haha

Lardy 85mm weighted and brown stained

Lardy 92mm around 1940-50 weighted.

MCH818

Wow! That 92 mm is nice. There isn't a thick coating of varnish like many old Lardy's have. Nice find!
