"The Defense" by Nabokov

ugh!

batgirl

How can one not like Nabokov, possibly one of the best wordsmiths ever?

AndyClifton

Oh God, you're high.  That guy babbled like a 10-ton train.

batgirl

I may be high. . . I not telling. . . but Nabokov's use of words sparked my initial attraction to writing and lexiophilia.

CalamityChristie

"How To Cheat At Chess" by William Hartston.  Classic!!

(I think he may have also designed my ensemble.)

I like Dr. Seuss too.

Could please tell about Schiller?  Unless you talk about Schiller the German poet I no hear of him in making chess book?

I think they are pertaining to FM Eric Schiller. I kinda like his books. But some guys here dont. Good point. Maybe someone could emphasize why he/she hated Schiller's books.

Use Google to find torrents for chess books and then use Bit Torrent and you will be able to find hundreds of free chess books.

I can honestly say Eric Schilller's books sucks big time. He just likes churning out as many books as possible. If you buy one of his opening books you won't learn a damn thing. Don't buy any of Eric Schiller's books. Silman is better.

GreenPumpkin31

1. How to Reassess your Chess - Jeremy Silman.
2. The Amateur's Mind - Jeremy Silman.
3. Silman's Complete Endgame Book - Jeremy Silman.
4. My System - Aron Nimzoswitch.
5. Winning Chess Tactics/Strategy/Openings - Yasser Seirawan.
6. A Guide to Chess Improvement: The Best of Novice Nook - Dan Heisman.
7. Any other book by Jeremy Silman.

'best lesson of a chess coach' by sunil weeramantry coach of GM nakamura..I found learning was never much fun in any other book ..he proved good chess player and good teacher completely different thing..

batgirl

I have "Best Lessons of a Chess Coach" and enjoyed it since it told stories and examined games based on clever themes. Weeramantry wasn't only Nakamura's coach, he is also his step-father.

fburton

Yes, I wish Weeramantry had published more of his chess lessons in book form - they are very good.

Vae_victis1979

Pandolfini's Ultimate Guide to Chess. Loved it, but still I have a lot to learn!
