So, purchased a few endgame books but would like to also work on my middle game. Any suggestions?

At your rating, focus should be on Tactics, Tactics, Tactics!

The best I've seen is the 2-volume Predator at the Chessboard set. Lots of wordy explanations.

Predator at the Chessboard, Book 1
Predator at the Chessboard, Book 2

At your likely level, "The Amateur's Mind" by Silman would be a good choice. Also do at least some tactics practice every day.
